Well, I don’t see anyone finishing this thing off by themselves. Anyone who could come even close has less work making a lot more money in a competition than at this challenge. I like burger challenges for the fun of it, not because of the money, but that is because of the feeling of accomplishment. It shouldn’t be easy, but come on, make it at least seem winable.

That burger’s insanely large. They put that together just for the novelty of it. No one person in a right frame of mind would even think about attempting it.

Hey SyKo! Sorry I didn’t get back earlier. As most people know, I don’t post at nights or on weekends. As such some people think I’m Sonya, or Rona, or Eater X, all of whom I check in with before I post, since what I state here might affect us, both individually and collectively, and I want them to be aware of what we’re all about to say.
The largest burger that a single person has eaten before (that I know of) is the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub “Ye Old 96er,” which has 6 lbs of meat and the rest of the weight of the burger, when added to it, totals 11 lbs. Kate Stelnick ate it in just under 3 hours, and she’s the ONLY one to ever to it. (Leave it to a “girl” to have to do a man’s job!) 🙂 (Screw you Luther!) (Maybe I did years ago … who knows?)
I’d like to see Sonya (and Juliet) attempt that, but I doubt she will, because of the lack of incentive. Let the IFOCE put it in a contest and she’ll turn some heads.

Kate needs to update her factoid page (if she even keeps it up anymore). Sonya Thomas has eaten 18.5 lbs of food (grits) in 10 minutes, which equates to 18.5 % of her bodyweight, since by most accounts her weight is now 100 lbs, versus 105 lbs. I doubt that anyone else in the world, male or female, has ever come close to that.
To put an even greater exclamation point on that, it is my understanding that she stopped with a minute or two remaining in the 10-minute contest. She probably needed to get a burp out and couldn’t, because of the way grit-type foods pack in your stomach, thinking back to her cheesecake competition in 2004.

Rhonda, you’re an idiot. “Because of the way grit-type foods pack in your stomach” makes no sense. They pack perfectly. They don’t trap air. Sonya wouldn’t have needed a burp. She quit because she was stuffed, because she couldn’t eat any more.

Juliet can certainly do this as easily as she won Broadway at the Beach, and Bethesda is practically in her back yard. Afterwards she wil get the recognition for the great one that she is.

Anonymous 11:19 I believe Rhonda before you. You’re the idoiot, otherwise you would use your name. You’re just another Sonya detractor, who probably got his ass kicked by her so many times.

Anonymous 8:40 PM: I feel weird in saying this, replying to an “anonymous” comment, sort of like I feel weird when I get close to a microphone. I just don’t like things of that shape coming too close to my mouth. But anyway, thanks for commenting to Anonymous 11:19 AM.
Anonymous 11:19 AM: You love to direct the words “idiot” and “stupid” towards me. You do this on a recurring basis. I would normally address you respectfully, but you blew it, much like you’d probably react toward microphone-shaped things when they come too close to YOUR mouth.
It would be more appropriate for you to use the terms, “idiot” and “stupid” when you stand in front of a mirror. That way you’ll be correct in those assertions both literally and figuratively. However, since your remarks have convinced me that you are a mental protozoa, I will briefly descend to your level and try to explain.
It’s about pace. That being Sonya’s only grits contest, she ate too fast and did not pace herself for that type of food, as it’s my understanding that she set the pace and was in front the entire time she was eating. Did she stop because she FELT full? Absolutely. Was she literally full, by volume? No.
Air absolutely does need to escape from your stomach when eating ANY food, in order to maximize eating capacity. With high density foods like grits and cheesecake, there is not as much room in your stomach for air to become trapped in, because of the way these foods pack as they exit the esophagus. As such, it’s harder to burp.
This is what happened to Sonya in cheesecake too, or did you not watch the video? She was full near the end. then she burped and was able to eat more.
I advise you to think a bit more before you “open your mouth,” though I suspect the latter action likely comes more natural for you. There, I’ll check back tomorrow, should you want to descend to Round 2.
