update Midtown Lunch has a 200+ comment post about a group challenge attempt on March 2.

update #2 Feb 13 In a yelp threadKarin G reports that a Hill Country manager said the woman who finished the challenge in 8 minutes was non-Asian, which rules out Sonya Thomas and Juliet & Floria Lee.

I really cant stand when eating establishments pull that kind of bullshit. It’s like a little kid that cant accept the fact that he lost in a card game or checkers so he tries to cheat his way to victory next time. Sore losing restaurant has to screw up the shit by setting the bar higher making it more difficult. What assholes.

The article says the woman was a professional eater. Obviously there are only two female pros in the U.S. who can put food away that fast.

Whomever she was, she wore a cut up “five spot” t-shirt? Weird I know. I wonder if anyone can piece this mystery together?

Just to set the record straight – I was at Hill Country with this woman, and she’s a friend of mine.

    1) She is not a competitive eater, or a professional eater, in any sense. She’s just a normal person with a normal job who lives in the city. She went to do the challenge with some friends for fun, and just happens to have a talent for eating fast.

    2) She did not add a full additional pound of meat. She did eat an extra side and finished off a pulled beef sandwich, but she was not trying to “up the challenge” or change it in any way. She really just wanted to get the free t-shirt and hat and have some fun… It’s too bad Hill Country is exaggerating and using this as an excuse to change their rules.

    3) I’m not sure what a “cut up five-spot” t-shirt is, but she was just wearing normal clothes.

Congratulations to your friend. If she would like to profit from her ability, the annual Dumpling Festival has a women’s dumpling eating contest awarding $1,800 ($1,000 to the winner)

Will have to be one of the last to take this thing on. I’ll try to hit the same time mark as before with the extra food.
