I hope we can still do more than one qualifier – if not, I’m only doing UAB (hopefully) – the college contests are the most fun – losing while looking at beautiful co-eds, massive crowds, and a lot of enthusiasm – plus, there’s always an invite to a tailgate party afterwords!

The Angus burger counts as 5 regular Krystals, OJ.

Verrrry interesting. I applaud the Krystal team for making this change. It’ll make things interesting, not to mention it won’t make their delicious product look like a soggy, disgusting mess. Once again, they’ve proven why they’re the best sponsor in all of CE.
The Angus burger bonus is cool too. I’m assuming eating the Angus is optional, correct? If they get 5 Krystals added to their total for every Angus eaten, and the mass of the Angus is equivalent to 5 Krystals, I’m not sure if it would be worth changing your tempo by eating the Angus if there’s no real “bonus” for doing so. Now if the Angus is really only equivalent to 3 or 4 Krystals, that’s a different story.
It’ll be interesting to see how picnic style rules affect the eye-popping totals we’re used to seeing. Joey ate 103 burgers last year. What can we expect without dunking? 75? 50? I’m guessing totals will decline by 30 to 40 percent.

Why did Krystal switch to aice?

The Krystals people continue to impress me. They’re focusing on doing the right thing in rewarding the best EATERS, versus rewarding efforts to inflate totals by doing whatever it takes to get credit for having gone through the most Krystals. The no-dunking rule will also make it easier for the judges to keep track of totals, and an added benefit will be reduced costs associated with wasting and desecrating tasty sliders.
Kobayashi is the best eater (not drinker) in the world, and his gift to glut will shine through. He has never lost a nondunking event —- forget the Spike TV farce in Vegas —- many of which aren’t even close (chicken, brats, rice, cow brains, all foods in the US Open).
Practice, practice, practice boys … but whatcha gonna do when The Tsunami makes his giant splash on you?!

Hi Mega! Good post. I think the median total will be about 40 Krystals, with no more than three or four people eating over 55. For some of these characters, eating Krystals without dunking in hot liquid will be like re-learning to walk.

Nutritional info lists regular krystal at 60g in size and big angus at 202 in size – in other words they say it is a little over 3 times as big. So unless it is super difficult to eat fast, it would seem as though it would be worth eating in order to get credit for 5.

MM- It looks like the Angus is 202g and one Krystal is 60g.
Rhonda- Kobayashi also hasn’t competed in many non-dunking contests since 2006.

It’s good to be back Mega. Yep, the tomfoolery in Krystals is over.
The days of Krystal-drinking, wearing, throwing, drowning-and still-get-credit have flippin’ ceased!
May this facilitate the return of Dr. Big Time who was royally screwed last year!

Yeah he hasn’t Craig, other than kicking Joey’s ass royally (by over 2 lbs) in chicken in Singapore, and squeaking by Joey in P-Zones, Koby is only 2/2. What’s Joey’s record in such contests since 2006?

Okay, whatever. I’ll make you a deal, Rhonda:
If the numbers of the Top 3 aren’t down by at least 25% this year compared to last year, YOU NEVER POST ON HERE again.
You’re always wrong, Rhonda. You’re wrong again. One of these days maybe you’ll realize how little you know.

I think Pat will be a bigger issue for Kobayashi than Joey.

its been proven before that dunking is at least 4 times faster than not dunking. it is also very difficult to stay in a groove and it will wear the eaters out quicker. pat, joey and kobi will be neck and neck in this. i think pat walks away with the victory. mental toughness will play a major part in this contest. a total over 50 will be a shocker to me. mle eaters are going to find out how much bread swells when all the bicarb in the bread isnt released in a cup of hot water. dunking is child’s play compared to picnic style rules. bout time krystals stepped up and honored their food by not letting it be desecrated. angus burgers first while you are fresh and they are hot, the bonus is worth the room it will save. this is going to be an interesting ifoce event for a change.

No dunking = Okey. The Angus has to do more with marketing than CE i think. I’m not sure that it will change eaters’ aproach to the contest. Let’s see how it turns out.
Koby has his chance here. Pat is the one he should worry about, not Joey. I’ll have to wait for the qualifiers to choose my favourite. I definitely would like to see Pete compete here.

I believe my sorry totals will remain sorry, and will not decrease by 25%….that may be impossible. The top guys can swallow a Krystal whole – totals will be down, but not by 25%…I’m guessing 10% – just for the time required to take a quick sip

Sorry … I don’t “talk” to nonentitied Anonymi.
I am as correct about The Tsunami in Krystals this year as I was about him in Singapore. As a matter of fact, and I’ve said this before, Pat is indeed better than Joey in most nondunking foods. Pat may well finish second to Koby versus Joey.
Gastroboy I think you’re right about the Angus having more to do with (or as much with) marketing than CE.
SPB you and a few others are in the exception category, whereby I don’t believe your totals will be down by 25 %. But I think that expected decrease is a good ball park figure for the majority of eaters. Like Mega says, some eaters may see a 30 – 40 % decline.
You won’t see the winner eating 80 Krystals. You might see Koby, Pat, and/or Joey come close to 70-75, however, but that will be the upper limit.

Anon111 is right. I’ve seen the video of Pat swallowing whole UNDUNKED Krystals. It’s crazy. He’s like a freakin’ anaconda swallowing a baby deer.
I can’t wait to see how the eaters tackle these foods undunked. It’ll definitely force most of the eaters to practice their strategies in the days and weeks before hand. You’ll definitely see a lot more drinking of fluids, which will slow down the eating process and fill up the stomach a little more than dunking would.

Ahhhhhhh. The picnic style agenda for ifoce. Rhonda is right, totals will be falling like the mirrors in Beautiful Brians house. No more slider drinking! Oh no! I bet the Sheas are kicking each other in the junk over this one. I hate to say it but I cant wait to see how this one turns out. I must admit, back in the day, I was awed when I seen Kobayashi dunking and stuffing 40+ Nathans and I think Joey will be in awe when Kobayashi out EATS him in Krystals. Its gonna be nice to see what these guys can really eat.

anon 935 lol lol lol freakin hilarious….poor Brian….. I wonder how many washings it took to get the stains out of the Shea’s boxers when Krystals said they wanted picnic style. And it isn’t just Julia’s fault….there was so much debris by so many people. Bads wears most of his and Conti was slick at concealing food.
Then the Shea’s didn’t ever have enough sack to issue fair judgements on contest totals.

Anon935 and Anon1034, good points, but I don’t think the Shea really give a crap about declining totals and Krystal’s switching to picnic rules. It’s the truth. Why should the Sheas care? As long as Krystal pays their PR bill on time, the Sheas are happy.

I call foul. Throw a flag. Where is the ref on this travesty. Put the blindfolds back on the judges.
Juliet Lee wins by any means she can. Not allowing dunking will give the women’s advantage back to Sonya Thomas. That is not fair. Juliet is very good at drinking sliders. What buns she does not leave in her cups she leaves on the tray, table, floor and all over her clothes.
Foul. Foul. I cry Foul. Now how can Juliet Lee can in the finals in Chatty. At least Juliet Lee will be in Chatty on Aug 22. Then if she does not win she can still try again in Atlanta.
Not letting Juliet Lee dunk her sliders is like making your kid clean their plate at dinner time. It is not fair. What is next. Will Nathan’s issue a no dunking rule. Say it isn’t so. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
