El Wingador vs. Canseco (& KFC commercial) information
NJ.com has information about the July 24 bout between Bill “El Wingador” Simmons and Jose Canseco sanctioned by the Celebrity Boxing Federation. The fight will take place at the Ice Works in Ashton, PA. Sugar Ray Leonard Jr. will fight on the undercard. Tickets are $45 ringside / $30 general admission and the fight will consist of three one minute rounds. The official website for Celebrity Boxing has yet to be updated with any new information.
NJ.com also reports that El Wingador will star in a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial with 4 other unnamed competitive eaters. Documentarian Errol Morris, who has produced other commercials for KFC, posted about meeting El Wingador on his twitter. The advertisement is expected to debut on the west coast on July 26.
update It will be interesting to see who are the other four eaters appearing with “El Wingador”. The date of the filming in Los Angeles was apparently July 2, same as the Nathan’s weigh-in.

El Wingador is a big guy, but I have to think Canseco is clearly the odds on favorite here. He’s younger (slightly), in better shape (by far) more experienced (albeit in losing efforts) and he played professional baseball for about 20 years. In a Philly Inquirer article, El Wingador said he was a “street fighter”, but I’m not really sure what that means. I predict Canseco with a TKO in the second round.

Several weeks ago i asked the Prez of the IFOCE his prediction on Wingador Canseco. The answer i recieved was “Holeyfield” . I took that to mean they have no interest in the fight because its not an MLE production. Cant everyone just have fun instead of making it a sanction issue. I was planning on going if the fight took place at Atlantic City which was the original destination. Wingador has been in the ring one other time against a wrestler and fought to a draw. Hard to make a prediction because Wingador is still unporven . We know what Canseco brings to the ring which is fair to decent but nothing to write home about. Wingador is a pretty big dude and i would hate to get him angry. Personally i would love to see 6’7 Joe Larue get in the ring with either of them. If Larue was in shape and his knees were ok he would KO the both of them.

I think there will be two hits, one of Conseco hitting wingador and tthen wingador hitting the mat. No, seriously, I think wingador will make a good showing, but Conseco will win.

wingador would need at least 2 yrs of serious diet training along with some steroids to get cut up like canseco. 328 is ok for his height but he would need to be around the 270 mark to be able to move around the ring consistently. Canseco will intimidate him with the better looking physique as soon as they enter the ring. The flab that will be showing on Wingadors midsection will be enough of a target for canseco . I dont care how much wingador has been training , he wont show up with a six pack when he enters the ring
