At least this is an independently run contest. I wonder who’s gonna show up, considering that several of the biggest independent socal eaters will be busy the day before trying to demolish the Big 54 pizza in Los Angeles.

This organization seems to be holding this contest one to three times per month, for the past few months. Stephanie Torres won the first contest in San Diego in October, followed closely by Johnnie Excel. At least they’re offering cash now for prizes instead of random and bizarre gift certificates and coupon books. Wonder if they allow dunking now?

Speaking of dunking… I know that people prefer to dunk because of the ease in which the wet bun goes down. I am not a goose, duck, or other water fowl. And hence the first time i did it in a competition the feeling of wet bread going down the hatch was very unappealing to me. I have only found a couple of foods unappealing (some refried beens and uni). i don’t know what would happen if i continued to dunk any of the rest of the buns. As a result of not dunking my mouth was probably dryer than it should have been if i had dunked and my bun consumption was slower. I gulped water between bites to combat this dryness. And after the 8th or 9th dog i added mustard which really helped both the flavor fatigue and the dryness. i think i was the only contestant that went to the condiments.

Any opinion on the condiments? Do i just have to get used to the feeling of wet bread going down and bear it? I am very inexperienced in real contests (5) and only the hot dogs involved bread. Is dunking less important in an event that runs for 12 minutes or longer, to dunk or not to dunk? that is my question.
