ESPN2 to show Sportscenter instead of Nathan’s womens finals

The 2013 Nathan’s TV schedule is now out (scroll down to “Great Events”). ESPN2 will start live coverage of the men’s finals at noon EDT while ESPN televises Wimbledon. The broadcast will be rerun on ESPN at 1 pm EDT and 7 pm EDT and on ESPN2 at 5 pm EDT.

The women’s finals will be webcast on ESPN3.com starting at 11:30. ESPN2 will be showing Sportscenter at that time, so the women’s finals could be televised live if the Sportscenter starting at 7 am EDT on that channel was truncated from five hours to 4:30.

real dumb. Probably the most anticipated hot dog contest between Sonya and Queen Sudo and they rather show boring Winbledon? Bad move ESPN

That is absolutely stupid in ESPN electing to show flippin’ “Sportcenter” at 11:30 versus the Nathan’s Women’s Finals. Perhaps that will change. They’ve altered programming before.

Since many of us will miss seeing her on ESPN when can we the public look forward to Miki’s next open letter?

This just disputes that idiot who came on here a few weeks ago posting as “its a mans world my ass” Just the opposite. Women libbers still have a long way to go if they can’t share ESPN television coverage with grown men. I expected to see Miki face on ESPN Sportscenter but then again maybe its best we don’t. The reporters like to dig in on their past and i could just picture anchormen Chris Berman or John Anderson mentioning the bomb scare issue. ” A new face on the competitive eating scene but there is a dark side to this young superstar”

maybe it’s better to have the old familiar faces- you know, the ones without felony convictions and stuff.

Yes, women do still have a long way to go, as compared to the men, especially in “sports,” with respect to public interest. There is no recognized professional football league for women—-same for hockey. In tennis and golf, there’s interest, but far less than for men. Interest in women’s pro basketball is even less than for golf and tennis.

In CE, the Nathan’s finals is the exception, in that it’s the only one of scores of annual CE contests with a separate women’s division. Even when a women’s record is set, it’s not really a record.

It looks as if I’m the only person who does not see Miki as a shoo in to win the Nathan’s finals (or at least who admits it). As much talent as Miki has, she hasn’t taken enough steps to fully map that journey, at least not for me.

Regarding Miki’s past, it’s over; it’s done. Personally, it’s obvious she has moved on. However, newspeople are oftentimes ruthless and seek out dirt on even the nicest folks, regardless of how long ago it happened. The best thing Miki can do is just what she is, or seems to be, doing—-remain quiet about it.

Miki seems to love CE and life itself. Miki has lots of zest and she does what she does with much enthusiasm and elan. She just has to be very careful, because the path to whatever amount of fame she may find is likely riddled with booby traps, because if the media gets an opening into something negative they may be ruthless, which would be unfortunate. It could get blown all out of proportion. That would be most unfortunate for everyone.

That’s a good thought OJ—-shortening a 5-hour-long SC. Watching SC for even 2 hours would be almost as much of a sedative as watching Joey gurgitate me off to sleep as he mops the floor up with the rest of the men’s division.

MLE must be addressing this oversight with ESPN, unless it’s for a reason that I won’t speculate on.

Anyway, if I can’t see it live, you can bet I’ll certainly get the lowdown from Ignatius Rake and his staff at the Rake and Herald!

R&H wont be there to cover the action but merely interpret what went on . Difference between R& H and BB.com and no this is not Seruken

That is true, 12:49, and just as I appreciate read BB’s “take,” I always enjoy reading the R&H’s report and exclusive interviews.

Just like that old Carly Simon song from the early 70s, when it comes to CE reports, “nobody does it better” than “The Rake!”

And nobody has a better CE database, or has a more extensive coverage of CE events world-wide than http://www.eatfeats.com.

    Hello Rhonda

Thank you very much for your kind words. Sadly, 12:49 is right. We will not be able to cover the event on the ground. Moreover, I’ve just checked with ESPN and we won’t even be able to watch it over the internet either. Which is annoying. Still, I hope our interpretation of events still brings something to the table. And, hey, it’s free so it’s not as if anyone’s out of pocket.

Of course, if someone wants to pay our airfare, I’m sure we can get next Thursday off work…

In the past, Seiken lived a stones throw away and threatened not to, or did not attend the Nathan’s finals.
