I’m surprised to read that. He is the most socialistic butterfly of them all.

Good for Geoff for carefully thinking about his life and options but so sad for me. To beat Joey is no mean feat, and it makes the contests far more exciting when Geoff participates. People often make fun of much lower ranked eaters who never finish in the money. They are committed to competing for many different reasons, one is for recreation and along with that is the friends one makes on the circuit. I can just already hear the whiners responding that there is no camraderie in MLE and elsewhere. You are just plain wrong.

Geoff is a great guy. It seems like all the eaters who could truly eat massive amounts, Joey, Molly, B.O.B, and Geoff are all operating at maybe 75% of their max capacity these days. And often saying “maybe I should give this up.” Without the top competitors setting the pace by eating to the limits of what humans can eat I wonder if competitions will becomes less interesting. Where’s the motivation for a new challenger to push themselves if they’re not competing against the best?

MLE is boring. Someone needs to make a comeback.
