If Carlene or Rich reads this I want to let you know I am praying for you Carlene. I have not heard for sure what is wrong, but I hope you are 100% healthy and are feeling great soon.

Carlene is home resting after going thru a grueling hospital stay According to husband Rich, doctors have to wait and see if she needs surgery. No timetable on that . She wont be doing any competitive eating for quite some time unless the doctor says otherwise. For those pessimists out there her illness is not related in any way to competitive eating.

Hey has anyone heard anything about Carlene lately? I was talking with some guys about the circuit and I thought about Carlene. I had not heard anything and was wondering how it’s going with her… Thanks.

Thanks for asking, Skinnyboy. Carlene wants to let all her fans know that she is doing fine and thank them for all their good wishes. Her future in competitive eating is still uncertain at this time but she’ll be at the Big Daddy burger contest in Las Vegas on 1/21 to cheer me on. She finished 5th in that contest last year in what proved to be the most grueling competition we have ever been in. What made it so bad was the meat, which was very dense, dry and extremely overcooked. I hope they make big improvements this year.

That is great news, Rich! Please give her my best. My wife and I are big fans of her and what she has done, and will hopefully continue to do!

Okay, okay, I get it! I was overdone last year. I was dense. I was dry. And you know what else? I probably had a bad attitude. I didn’t want to be there. I hate Vegas. I hate the heat. I hate the dry air. I get nose bleeds VERY easily. And the whole thing just made for really bad weekend for me. Really, no matter which way you cut it, I was a bad hamburger.
But, listen. 2006 is a brand new year. Every day chefs around the world are learning new techniques for cooking juicier 7-lb hamburgers. And every day I’m working hard to remember that life is a gift, and that I’m lucky to hamburger at all.
Rich, I’ll do my best to be a better burger for you. That’s a promise from me to you.
