According to the article, the contest will be sanctioned by the IFOCE (?) and four professional competitive eaters (Pete Czerwinski, Dale Boone, Joe Menchetti and Ian Hickman) and four amateurs will compete.

As with most articles, it isn’t accurate. It should have read Wloce.

They must think WLOCE, AICE, and IFOCE are the same thing.

can somebody clear the air for a newbie… So if somebody is already affiliated with another association IFOCE simply won’t take you, even if you leave that other association?

The only reason to join the other groups is competition is not as good there. Sure these guys can eat but they are middle of the IFOCE pack at best. These guys Pete Czerwinski, Dale Boone, Joe Menchetti and Ian Hickman are all good eaters and except for Boone they are good guys. Boone is a jerk though and a big baby who can not stand the fact he is average in the modern world of eating and that is why he got banned. The IFOCE will even forgive someone going outside the lines as they have done before. You do this crazy stuff because it is fun. if you are average like most then maybe go to contest in disguise, wear a mask or something, I bet they will find your creativity worth keeping in the IFOCE. Or better yet stay independent until they show interest because they will even if your middle of the pack as long as your a good sport about it all, have fun, and maybe put on a show.

I thing Joe Menchetti has proven year after year that all but the top three or four IFOCE eaters are better off without any league affiliation.

    Nun on a Bun,

    Explain “going outside the lines”

and your saying that the IFOCE may even come to you (aposed to you going the other way around) if you have some impressive independent field of work?

    thanx!

Another reason to join other groups: You don’t need permission to go eat a giant pizza with your friends.

Lets put it this way if you need a shoulder to cry on Boone is the last person to come to for advice. . He is the most insensitive human being that ever set foot on the face of the earth. He is not liked by anyone and i think he wants it that way.

    article has been updated:

Jake’s contest is not affiliated with the International Federation of Competitive Eating or any other professional eating organization. The company will decide later whether to connect with a national organization or remain independent. The burger-eating continues to grow, Cushwa said.
