GJoe wins Bubba Dogs contest

The website for Bubba Dogs reports on the hot dog eating contest it held Saturday:

Well, it was a great day. We ended up with 10 contestants on Saturday and had a phenomenal time. Most importantly, we raised $2000 for the Fallen Heroes Fund. The winner was Gentleman Joe Menchetti who gobbled 18 hot dogs in 12 minutes. It seems that Joe was taking it easy as he knew he had it in the bag. Below are the pix from the day (click on them for larger view). The weather cooperated and we ended up moving from the promenade at JFK to the La Costa complex parking lot. This proved to be the right move as most of the festivities were taking place in this area anyway.

How can I congratulate Gjoe on this win? That number wouldn’t get you more than a “good try, better luck next time” and a pat on the back at any on the contests I’ve been in.

Joe you ate more dogs than that WAY back when Sonya kicked your butt at her second contest ever, the 2003 Nathan’s Finals. But since you’re “the favorite in any poll that seeks to identify America’s #1 Eater,” who am I to give you anything but praise and acclaim for such a tremendous performance!

Really, Joe, I’m just running my mouth. Great job my friend …

9/29/07-Hickman captures Black & White Cookie Eating Title

Ian “The Invader” Hickman downed 11-5″ 1/4 quarter pound Black & White Cookies to claim the title of “World Black & White Cookie Champion. In second place was Chris “The American” Schlesinger with 9.66 followed by Mike “The Real Skinny” Hoffman and Joel “the Cannon” Podelsky. Special thanks to WVIP (formerly WRTN) and whole Ebony & Ivory crew (Gary Ivory, Trevor Forde, Lusty) and the enthusiastic Bronx crowd for their cheers and support. Special thanks to the vivacious “Lusty” Jackson whose presence was a great source of motivation for several of the Food Warriors.

    Ian “The Invader” Hickman 11.0
Dale Boone 11.0 **DQ’d: bad sportsmanship and blatant violation of Eater’s Code of Ethics
    Chris “the American” Schlesinger 9.66
Mike “The Real Skinny” Hoffman 7.50
    Joel “The Cannon” Podelsky 7.00
    “Sweet” Jill Stoler 3.00

Bronx watcher is obviously the scum that goes by the name… Screw it! I’ll do what I can not to even credit him by name.

BTW, he was one of the sources several years ago regarding Sonya.

    Rhonda,

I do not claim to be able to eat more hotdogs than Sonya in 12 minutes. I do not train in any way, other than chewing gum. (which is as much to keep me from smoking, as training)

I could have put away around 30 if I was pushed. & hot dogs are my worst event. I only eat an amount necessary to win, when I can.

I could have eaten 60 dumplings last yr, but it wasn’t necessary then. I thought w/ the scum there, I might need to do 60, since he claims to be so good in speed events. Well, this was pure speed, & all he could say was ‘they were dry, they were dry, I didn’t train with ones that were so dry.’ I didn’t train AT ALL.

Additionally, I was at B&W Cookie. If I were allowed to compete, I easily would have beaten the 15 the scum claims to have eaten.

Gee, is there anyone that was at Pelmeni that doesn’t believe he cheated there??? Didn’t he rant & rave & claim fix at jalapeno’s in Atlanta??? Doesn’t he post here regularly defending himself, as other identity’s???

His strategy is lie be bold & stick to it. Its mostly worked for him so far. Hopefully not anymore!

Sorry, I got side tracked. When winning beef patties for several yrs, the best I had done was 11.75? in 5min. Well, when there was competition, (Goose) I did 14 in 3:35. I coast when I can! Why do more than necessary???

I guess Elizabeth & I helped to put Shirota into retirement… I’m disappointed, I was hoping to beat him in Japan next. Maybe he’ll change his mind.

Why does everyone think I dislike Sonya &/or vice versa. She was lovely to me when I saw her on 7/4. I don’t think even on speedeat, i’ve said or written anything negative about her. I just don’t idolize her like some do, & they see that as some form of disrespect.

It would be irregular if I was to beat her in a contest over 8 minutes. It would be irregular for her to beat me in 5 minutes or less in most items, though she has a much better chance of beating me in the 5 or less than I do in 8 or more.

That’s enough before this becomes speedeat2

Joe it’s always good to read what you write. I know you don’t dislike Sonya. In fact, I have read very favorable comments both on your former speedeat.com and eatfeats.com, whereby you gave her lots of credit. (I just get “ragged out” sometimes and go off on a tangent.)

Actually, I don’t “idolize” Sonya either. I do however, have more respect for her than any other eater in the world today, except maybe for Koby. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have tons of respect for many other eaters, however, because I do. Do I like some more than others? Sure?

Joe, I also believe that you and Elizabeth had a little something to do with Shirota’s announcement of retirement. Needless to say, he has not been the eater he was 3 – 5 years ago (37 HDBs in 2004 and a win over Koby a year or two prior in Japan), and it’s good that he is getting out before he declines further.

I too am curious why you were not “allowed” to compete in the cookie contest because, had you, there surely would have been neither a tie for, nor controvery over, who won.

On a side note, I wonder if Dale Boone’s “leaving the IFOCE,” along with his “Bad Boy” antics in APE is nothing more than a ploy for MLE to help market Dale as THE ULTIMATE VILLAIN in all of competitive eating. After all, his pic is still part of the Krystals photo at IFOCE.com. Also, look at the timing of and exposure to the DVD, a large part of which features Dale Boone.

It’s probably nothing. It just has me wondering.
