Golden Palace NM, NC contests canceled, SC in doubt
Andrew “Skinnyboy” Lane received a message from IFOCE headquarters:
I am extremely sad to announce that the breakfast burrito eating championship in Albuquerque on October 11, and the pickle eating championship in Raleigh on October 16 have been canceled. It is likely that the chicken strip contest in Columbia on October 13 will also be canceled, but that is not yet confirmed.
I would assume the AZ contest on the 28th is in serious jeopardy as well. If the SC and AZ contests are canceled, hopefully the jalapeno contest on Sunday will be a fitting end to the series.
updated from the Sicilan IFOCE.com has an official statement about the cancellations saying that the AZ contest will take place without any prizes. The jalapeno contest Sunday will be sponsored by Major League eating instead of golden palace.

This appears to be true since the ifoce competitive eating news link posted this:
Competitive Eating News has learned that the green chile grilled cheese-eating contest on September 23 was the final GoldenPalace.net World Series event of 2006.
This year’s World Series tour, considered the perfect marriage of pageantry, gurgitation and prize money, provided many memorable competitions from Boston to Las Vegas. In fact, Takeru Kobayashi set a world lobster roll-eating record (41 in 10 minutes) in Boston and in Joey Chestnut set the world grilled cheese-eating record (47 in 10 minutes) in Las Vegas.
This weekend’s Jalapeno Championship at the State Fair of Texas will be sponsored by Major League Eating and the IFOCE will provide the prize money of $4,000. The MLE will also sponsor the October 28 fry-bread-eating contest in Arizona. However, the prize money has been eliminated.
The GoldenPalace.net event at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta scheduled for Wednesday is cancelled, as is the Pickle Eating Championship at the North Carolina State Fair.

This is a real shame considering GoldenPalace was one of the strongest supporters of competitive eating over the past year. They were instrumental in increasing prize purses and offered an economic edge to mid-ranked eaters. I’m sad to see them go.
For those of us who have competed in these contests, keep a hold of your GoldenPalace shirts. They might be worth something some day.

I am signed up for the Fry Bread competition in AZ – but what’s the point of paying to go there if there is no compensation for doing so? I think I will be changing my plane ticket to go elsewhere. The only people that will show up for a non-pay event are locals and competitors that are close by.

This is pretty bad. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more discussion on this. What does this mean for IFOCE, money-wise? They lost Alka-Seltzer as a sponsor this year and now this. The article says they decided that Sept 23 was the last World Series event *for 2006*? Might it come back for 2007? Also, what IS Major League Eating? Is that actually a different organization than IFOCE?

Just received this from IFOCE:
It has now been confirmed that the Southern Fried Chicken Strip contest at the South Carolina State Fair has been canceled. Please stay tuned for more contests coming up in November and December, and write back with any questions or concerns.
Thanks so much,
Kate

Why don’t all of you ass kissers of the ifoce get your heads out of your asses and realize the time has come for independence . Do you want to be treated like cattle on a plantation field for the rest of your lives. Anytime that you have to take money out of your own pocket to compete in a contest you lose!. Essentially you live in denial due to the brainwashing schemes that have been so gently bestowed upon you from you know who. For all you total moronic fools that justify this with “I had fun thats what counts” . When you go to Atlantic City or Vegas and your wallet takes a beating , did you still have fun? . If you are so desperate for food go to the damn supermarket . They sell the same shit they use at contests. By the way Tex Mex rolls are on sale for $1.49 Oh god why don’t all of you wake up and smell the damn COFFEE!

AICE rules-
Are you telling us that if we join the AICE that we woud get a free trip to all of the contests? So we would get a free trip to Lansing, KS, then Clinton, NJ… How can they afford to pay for trips for all of the eaters?. Or are they only paying for trips for some of the eaters (in other words some get free stuff and others don’t). I think many people would join the AICE if ALL of the eaters got free trips to the contests.

Coffee is $1.19 at my 7-11. Curious, AICE makes a point to help sponsor eaters whenever possible. That can mean anything from full rides to just gas money. But it is SOMETHING. Granted the prizes aren’t as huge as IFOCE contests, but you can compete without having to worry about losing the money spent on travel or whatever if you don’t do so well. There have been times that I have paid for AICE trips without sponsorship, part sponsorship and times that I have gotten free rides. AICE is more inclined to give full rides to those that will perform the best from an obvious business standpoint but every continuous AICE eater gets some type of compensation for their efforts regardless of the contests’ outcome.

hurts-
It is easily explained as this: 1) Chapman is generous to those that put forth the effort to compete. 2) It doesn’t matter if they talk about the money- that is irrelevant. 3) I don’t care. All I speak about is what I see and know. To me, that is what matters and makes the difference.

Arnie has been more than fair to the “lesser (known, quality &/or entertaining) eaters” w/sponsorship.
I believe he does a good job of hyping all the eaters, whether its based on the quality of there eating, performance, or general attitude.
I have been discluded (is that a word?) from events that I may have wanted to be in, in favor of others. On occasion,(not often) i’ve even offered to come “on my own” so others can be included.
I don’t know all the details, cuz I may not want to know all. But, its more than obvious that much more than Coon dog & I receive some sort of assistance. Coonie & others often perform double duty & more, by Mc’ing, judging etc.
That’s not to say ifoce guys don’t do the same. Its just that there, its expected. In aice it is appreciated.

Yeah I think ALL IFOCE eaters should jump on the AICE bandwagon and snag that $100 – $500 bounty for first place and perhaps a camera or something for third place. After all you can put a price on independence. Right? Yeah … my ass.
