You have to give Hall credit. He doesn’t have to “honcho” this, but he takes it upon himself to do a very well-intended, constructive thing. While there may be a few placings that people will disagree with, as nothing is perfect, Hall’s heart is in the right place and he does a good job collecting inputs and taking the time to organize this poll, whether anyone thinks it’s biased or not.
I’m really not being facetious, funny, or a wise guy (or girl) here either. I mean it Hall. You deserve some credit.

Anonymous, you are right, but Hall and the poll’s contrubutors follow MLE. It’s hard enough to wrap your arms around the top 25 in that organization alone, let alone “all others.”
You should voice your concerns to Mr. Chapman to see if anyone over there wants to organize an unofficial poll. It’s easier said than done, because it requires a bit of work and commitment.
No, I’m not talking about anyone over there needing to be committed. 🙂

When the IFOCE list comes out soon Juliet will be a lock for the top five because of her killer world record in cranberry sauce. The once great eaters of yesteryear were once the best but are slipping away and they should go ahead and retire. Juliet is the new young face of competitive eating greatness.

Joey B it’s only because of Koby’s lack of activity, I’m sure, that Koby is ranked so low in Hall’s poll. It would surely be very silly to expect anyone but Joey and Pat to come within a dozen hot dogs of Koby come July 4th.
However, even I am questioning whether Koby will bother showing up at Coney Island on Independence Day. He has little to gain and much to lose in doing so.
Right now if he retires he will always be considered the greatest competitive eater who ever lived, and he will still go out at the top of his game, having brought competitive eating into the hearts and homes of world-wide audiences. But every additional contest that Koby competes in and doesn’t win will cause him to descend from his lofty perch.
Koby is still as marketable as ever, as THE FACE of competitive eating. Koby’s name can be used world-wide in promoting an assortment of products related to food, exercise, and the human spirit.
Kobayashi dominated CE like no other living being, human or animal, ever dominated a sport before. Even after he retires, he will be to CE what Michael Jordan is to Basketball, or what the name Secretariat is to thoroughbred racing.
I, for one, want to remember him that way, as he is something very, very special.

US Male, don’t worry. You WILL be in the top 25 when the new IFOCE list comes out. It’s just that many of the people that contribute to that informal poll don’t know you. The IFOCE knows you, and that org knows your ability and potential.

What is Koby’s record against The Giant?

I only know that he beat Shirota the only time they faced each other on US soil at Nathan’s in 2004. Koby at 53 3/4 HDBs, Shirota ate 38. Shirota was neck-and-neck with him for about the first 6 minutes. That was the last time they ate against each other.

If Koby is unable or unwilling to compete, Shirota could challenge Joey.
in 04 Shirota could have eaten more than 45, but he knew he could not beat koby. He had nothing to gain by pushing himself

You crack me up Sykobozo. You’re at least # 5,970 on my list.
Thanks Rhonda. I know I have to make some noise this year to gain more respect from my peers on stage. There are so many good eaters that deserve to be on that list. Hopefully I can make it to Nathan’s on the 4th of July and then go from there. I will study the Sykobozo films so I can better myself 😉

Wow. Rich is ranked higher than ever since the poll first started. Maybe I missed something. What’s up with Koby? Number 8? With Erik Denmark? Even if Koby’s mouth was sewed shut he would kick Denmark’s ass all over the great wide open. This is a joke!

With the totals from last year’s qualifiers, anyone who makes the Nathan’s final table this year is gonna be quite a beast.

Nate what was the lowest total to qualify last year, was’nt like 44 or something like that? And are the qualifiers 12 minutes long too?
KevinRoss said

My guess is the lowest total to get to Nathan’s will be something like 28 this year. There may even be someone who hits 30 and still doesn’t get in due to bad luck of qualifier choice. It’s going to be nuts. Maybe they’ll make additional wildcards if the numbers get that high. It just wouldn’t be right for someone to hit 30 and not get to the big show.

Kevin,
I’ll bet everything I own that the lowest qualifier winner for the 2008 Nathan’s final is at 21.5 or less.

This is interesting. Joey doesn’t have to qualify, so Rich can get in through Arizona, leaving San Francisco open for a really low total. I bet this is what Pete was hoping for when I saw him buying a plane ticket this morning.
I don’t imagine anyone with 30 or more not getting in this year. Last year was a wake up call for some who thought they wouldn’t need a second round, and they will be getting up early the morning that qualifiers are posted.

If Pat can arrange his vacation to Vegas at a time which doesn’t coincide with the Vegas qualifier date Rich will be able to easily win in his back yard. Minnesota would certainly be much closer, and the Mall of America is right there for some convenient Power Shopping.
