Today is the 100th birthday of Mortimer Matz, co-founder of the
Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest in 1972 with Max Rosey. A New York Senate Resolution celebrates his centennial. In a 2010 interview for the New York Times, Matz discusses the creation of the competition and the fabrication of its 1916 origin story.
