“Harold & Kumar” writers to produce “All You Can Eat”
From The Austin Film Festival blog:
Join Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg on October 13, at 2:30 p.m.for clips and stories from their cult hit Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and find out more about the soon to be released Harold & Kumar 2. See how this writing duo has taken the buddy comedy to a higher level and made the transition from writers to writer/directors.
The duo recently wrapped production on their directorial debut, the much-anticipated sequel in the Harold & Kumar franchise set to be released in early 2008. As producers, they are currently in development on All You Can Eat, a comedy set in the world of competitive eating.

There’s been a comedy movie about every other obscure sport recently, so I knew it was a matter of time before a movie about CE came out. I hope they do it justice and don’t make some godawful crap like Balls of Fury.

Yeah, I agree Kevin “Balls of Fury” really did not do justice to the sport of ping pong . But in reality, you know that they will make a movie exactly like Balls of Fury to make light of how serious we take competitive eating. We can’t be too uptight though to not laugh at ourselves sometimes. I could write a comedy about CE no problem. I could also write a serious and compelling drama about CE but thats for a different segment of people probably.

How about a fake documentary like A Mighty Wind, or Best In Show?

Yes, you’re absolutely right. A self-deprecating comedy is the easy/obvious way to do it – and probably the most marketable to a large audience. But doing a serious drama would probably be more interesting and a heck of a lot harder to write. I used to write screenplays and have been tooling with the idea of doing a CE themed one for awhile. But I knew someone would beat me to it since it’s a pretty obvious choice for a topic these days.

You never know Kevin. Present the right script to the right people and perhaps your movie idea can be moved ahead as the next multi-million dollar movie. A movie like this would be best told from within the CE circuit itself.

Best in Show is one of the funniest movies ever. A mockumentary would be perfect for a CE movie.
