A heart attack has been listed as the official cause of death for Bruce Holland after he passed away while competing in an eating contest in Townsville, Australia last month.

Im staying anymous for this but..Ive been diagnosed with Afib, a kind of heart disease that was probably caused by pro eating. Its when you delete all the food you ate at the contest within 15 minutes you do damage to your heart and other organs. It gets worse when you practice water trainning or practice with food period..When your young your invincible, middleage thing start to happen.

Really sorry to read about your diagnosis. It is so true. When someone is young, they think that they are invincible. We have all done something in our youth that we might regret later. Try not to blame yourself. In wishing to do well in anything, you read because you want to learn how others do well. Water training has always been a problem, it is not effective and causes harm. There are lots of other so called hints or tips and many damaging ones. On the circuit some people advise other younger or newbies to get rid of what they consumed. That is really really bad as you unfortunately know. Anonymous too, Kobayashi never ever did that. Joey obviously practices a lot with hotdogs and buns, that is public. It cannot be good for his insides. We know it is against the rules, but even throwing up because of trigger response and other factors is not good for your insides. Take care of yourself and you can have a full life and a healthy one by paying attention to same. Good Luck.

156 you have every right to remain anonymous. The lame excuses that people use to justify their anonymity are only used as a vice to start trouble without being identified. In your case its different. Some of these high ranked eaters should think about how invincible they really are with the damage they are doing to their internal organs. A few years ago at a corn beef contest in nyc, Joey Chestnut was bleeding profusely from his nose prior to the event while being worked on by paramedics in back room. The MC played it off claiming Joey is in the back signing autographs. I guess some are willing to die for the love of the sport

Of course Rona will dispute this theory to the hilt living in denial and fantasy land on how wonderful and magnificent it is to watch the gladiators in action. This is pretty sad when you have senior citizens rooting on others to kill themselves for the joy of the sport

1219 add Rhonda Evans as one of the staunch advocates of competitive eating. In her mind the risk of developing serious health setbacks is the same as cigarette smoking causing nothing more than throat irritation

Wait a minute. Is this site about the dangers of competitive eating overall? Is it like Peta to stop people from eating anything but veggies? Rhonda as a fan is supposed to be trounced for being a fan? If the overall reason for eatfeats is to show that competitive eating is dangerous, you could have fooled me. It is but one part of the many conversations in my view.

156 aug 21 could be Joe Larue maybe not but water training and vomiting a few minutes after consuming water is a sure path to death. By drinking more than 64oz in a minute or more will drown your kidneys , shut down your organs which leads to eventual cardiac arrest. Is it worth it for $1000 or so ? There is nothing wrong with comp eating as long as you don’t do anything crazy along with it 156 is an example of the future when other eaters that are still alive in 2023 and beyond will take part in talk show interviews regretting their training methods and how it permanently destroyed their lives . Think aboout it before you chug down that next gallon

Could be? I call BS again because what is the point of trying to pin some comment on JL. That is completely unnecessary and sure to cause trouble. Just make your point without showing off that you think, and I say Think you know who the person is. Just another nasty uncalled for throw away comment to make trouble for everyone.

156 am hasn’t confirmed whether or not he volunteered the info to his doctor about his training methods as a competitive eater or if his training methods were diagnosed as the underling cause for his heart condition. Big difference here. The more info you give to the doc about yourself the better chance he will pin the blame . If the doctor asked ” Hey have you engaged in consuming an overabundance of fluid lately and heaving it up? Well then thats a different story

I would bet you’re training regime is not related to you’re actual diagnosis but it might have contributed in a small way . Since you told him you were a competitive eater its obvious he would attribute it as something. that is certainly not sanctioned by the medical profession

We put on a great show. With the people on top knowing how we train,do you think maybe we should have a paid chekup twice a year just to keep our batteries running

Like Al Qaeda terrorists that boarded the planes on 911 and were willing to do for a sick cause, the same can be applied to Eater X and Joey. . They put their bodies through hell for the love of the sport and are willing to die for it . Makes no sense

A true wake up call to those that engage in practicing with food and water training. Nothing good from it . One by one all of your internal organs will be destroyed.

156 is not Joe Larue but someone alot older. I will not divulge his name out of respect for privacy

Oh please, how very respectful are you. Try using a period at the end of a sentence and stop making people guess what is obvious. Yah, tell me to stfu again. If you had any sense whatsoever meaning of the words respect and privacy you would not post that comment.

Even TBW practices to some degree: http://www.dcmilitary.com/article/20130712/NEWS09/130719907/the-black-widow-bites-again

“I have to practice. I’m not spending my time and money traveling to lose.”

Exactly! Sonya needs to drop the act. Whining how she “doesn’t practice” is just a sad excuse for losing! We know its not true anyway!

9:24 am, reading closely I think you may have misinterpreted in part. She was referring specifically to kimchi in this instance as being her “native” food and to this particular contest. But of course things have changed for her. I am guessing that she is telling the truth, that she did not practice before for many reasons including that she really did not need to. She had that natural ability. Now she is quite a bit older, the body changes, and also she has competition she never had before. What used to be true isn’t true any longer. Practice also means different things to different people and eaters. What Joey does or did with hotdogs and Kobayashi too is to practice and practice with that particular food. That and their ability combined has them winning. A full contest practice is what some do, others just do a little.

Losing? Self reflecting, eh, 1:20? You appear to be the whiner. I am willing to believe her until proven otherwise. As for you, nope. Sound like a jealous asshole.

I agree with 3:05. Also, I believe when she stated that she has to practice kimchi, I take that as meaning she had yet, at the time of the interview, to practice it, and needs to, to help her chances to win her native food. Her second place tie in kimchi shows me that she probably didn’t practice or at least not enough to win, and she probably anticipated a bit of embarrassment not winning in a contest with food she grew up with. Anyway, that’s just what I think.

Also, I admire Sonya for not wasting all this food practicing, and I think she refrains from it for several reasons, all of which she has mentioned at some time in interviews or on her website. First, she probably doesn’t have time, and I read that she stated that she works 50 or more hours a week. Second, like she has stated, she loves to savor her food, which you cannot do eating for speed. Third, I think she doesn’t like to waste food. I might be wrong but I think most people throw up right after practicing with large amounts of food. That is not only wasteful, but it is horribly unhealthy.

For all those reasons, and because Sonya Thomas has been a top 10 eater for 10 years counting, she is one of my very favorite figures in all of competitive eating, past, present, and future. And for those who would nastily say she is losing her touch and needs to retire, she set the women’s hot dog mark in 2012, and only a few months ago she set one of the best eating records I have ever heard of, eating 445 oysters in 5 minutes. I cannot think of a single competitive eating record that is more amazing, and I strongly doubt she practiced for it, and I doubt she threw up afterwards.

You can have your Joey, and your Kobi, and whoever you want, but there will never be another Sonya Thomas! Anyone who has a problem with her has a problem with themselves.
