Humble Bob puts $2,500 on the line

from a comment by “anonomous” (December 5, 2006 10:53 AM) on urbanhonking.com/eaterx

Why is there no eating news on this site. with everything that is happening you would think the whaler would have something to say. with humble bob cheating at meatballs …

from the main page of humblebob.com:

I am offering my first place purse of $2,500 to anyone, (eater, fan, official, anyone) that has evidence that this (cheating) happened at any Carmine’s Meatball Contest (2004, 2005, 2006). This offer is for payment in cash. Bring the evidence, take the cash. It is that simple.

    Good for Bob!

Cheating is a serious allegation and something no one should accuse another eater of unless they’re absolutely sure of it (i.e. they have proof). Humble Bob is the Cal Ripken of competitive eating (without the streak); an honest, hard working family man who loves the game. Don’t spoil his first major win–and arguably the biggest win of the year for ANYONE–with B.S. like this.

Bob don’t even listen to such comments. That’s ludicrous.

I was right in front of Bob watching and cheering him on the whole contest and I didn’t see one move that’d make me think Bob cheated. He was the cleanest eater there and I’m happy for him. That win was all mental just pushing himself to the best of his abilities.

When I originally read the comment, I took it as sarcasm or a “Not Joke” (for you Borat Fans). You know Humble Bob Cheating = Pigs Flying.

I’m sick over this that Bob would take this seriously and have to address it on his website. It was nothing less than brilliant that he could defeat Joey Chestnut and Sonya at a Capacity contest. It’s a shame that this event has been marred by several incidents, he should be able to savor this victory…even Joey looks genuinely elated for Bob in the Video.

To suggest that a man of integrity would CHEAT in front of his own parents and children, is disgusting. Does anyone believe he would risk the respect of his fellow eaters, his self respect in a head to head competition?!?!?! Of Course not.

If this was a true accusation (and not a misunderstood joke), then it came from a Jelous Hater that KNEW it wasnt true, but said it because they knew it would hurt Bob’s feelings.

Bob, you did great as always – it’s a shame there has been so much controversy this weekend that you couldn’t enjoy the win in peace. As far as the cheating allegations go, someone has been posting claims on this website for at least the last five contests, claiming that there was cheating going on. Whenever someone else would tell them to put up (evidence) or shut up, we never heard from them again. Once again, you did great – congratulations! And thanks for putting me in for karaoke – I never would have done it otherwise.

Anyone that says anything bad about Humble Bob needs his head stoved in. Bob would be the very last person I or anybody on this planet with any common sense would suspect of cheating. Bob your a Class A individual with integrity and the respect of your peers your skills are much admired and your presence is feared at the table. Keep up the excellent work.

    Signed

    A Humble Bob Fan!!!!

I watched a super super slow motion replay, and I think I saw someone in a Flash outfit running across the stage, removing meatballs off Bob’s plate. Please send the money to me first, to cover my expenses of making extra tapes, and sending them from my Mexican vacation home.

Humble bob… i don’t know who says you cheated but the only person I know that could be called a cheater is a certain female competitve eater who was a poor sport that day…

That certain female competitive eater has lost 10 times this year. I think all the losses finally got to her. This is the truth and nothing but the truth. Look it up for yourself. 10 TIMES IN 06!!! These young guns are showing up on empty and leaving loaded.

Anony, the Young guns, as all men, SHOULD beat a 100-lbs woman EVERY time, not just 10 or 12 or 20. The fact that a 100 lbs female can beat ANY male eater who proclaims to be a competitive eater might make some wonder if the males she is beating shouldn’t find another sport.

Sonya’s talent has been taken for granted for too long. The fact is MALES SHOULD beat women in competitive eating or any other sport as they do.

Sonya is an anomaly if there’s ever been one. Pound for pound she is THE GREATEST eater who ever lived — and she is a bigger draw, excluding Kobayashi, than any five men combined. Anyway, that’s a fact that doesn’t merit repeating anymore, because I’m getting bored with the obvious.

Juliet, you did a really great job in Meatballs. I can tell you have a lot of talent. If you stick around you’ll likely be well rewarded. Congratulations! Keep in mind that a few years ago some of the eaters in the top 10 could not eat as much as you alrerady do. And you’ll certainly improve.

Juliet’s 5.53 lb total would have placed second in the 2004 meatball contest:

1st 5.9 $2500 Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas Alexandria, VA
2nd 5.125 $1250 Rich “The Locust” LeFevre Henderson, NV
3rd 5 $750 Eric “Badlands” Booker Copaigue, NY
4th 4.875 $500 “Hungry” Charles Hardy Brooklyn, NY

That’s a good point OJ. It just goes to show how far the eaters / sport have come, given such rapid increases in totals. However, as OJ knows it’s very tough to compare totals from one contest to the next, even with the same food. But that in no way detracts from the nice showing Juliet had. And the IFOCE could use another great female eater.

I would go so far, right now, to say that I sencerely believe that Juliet is already a better competitive eater than Gal Sone. I’ve little doubt.

I think Bob is very stupid for doing this. EVERYONE know that he didn’t cheat. Period. I just want to know who DID cheat…
