IFOCE Laredo, TX jalapeno eating contest Feb 23

(From an anonymous comment) An announcement for the La Costeña Jalapeño Eating Contest in Laredo, TX appears on the IFOCE website. The contest will be held on February 23 at the Jalapeño Festival. The total purse will be $5000. Registration opens Jan 22 at noon.

If no earlier IFOCE contests are held, there will be almost 4 months between full-fledged IFOCE competitions (not counting the Wing Bowl as a 100% IFOCE event). The announcement alludes to this hiatus:

The nations greatest athletes have been resting their gullets in the off-season and are ready to make a serious mark on 2008.

Good luck getting there on your own $$$. It ain’t easy.

BTW, I would consider it a more of a condiment than a food.

Congratulations, Ifoce. Its better to have 2 thriving organizations than only one.

Does a vegetable eating contest really count as an eating contest? I think not. THE STREAK CONTINUES!!

La Costeña actually makes Jalapenos. They come in a can and can be found in the Spanish food isle. Those are the ones they used in Chicago at least. Test em out!

Don lerman should be asked to judge the contest as a past champion.

Steakbellie the peppers that they sell in the
cans are not the ones used in lareado , they use a comerical pepper . no milk allowed ansd the stems are saved and counted, they bring out the peepers in large ziplock bags it takes 2-3 bites to get to th estem , the peepers are not soft like in chicago or sky city….

Is the ifoce nuts ? Why do they run these life threatening contests? You better hope these are not the raw green jalaeponos they sell by the pound at fruit and vegetable stands. One or two of those will burn your entire mouth and send you to the hospital if you dont go into cardiac arrest first. One would have to believe that these are canned watered down jalapenos which are hot but not as hot as the raw ones.
