Wow! Great job! Is there any way to sort this by total winning percentage and compare this with the IFOCE top 50?

BTW, why isn’t IFOCE (or Sports Illustrated) publishing these sorts of stats? Why does OJ have to do this?

Now there’s a mathematical ranking system I could get behind and it pretty much reflects MLE standings.

IFOCE cares not one whit to do this. Sports Illustrated doesn’t consider competitive eating as a sport worthy of stats would be my guess. It is entertainment, brand recognition, that’s it, in my opinion. That applies to every contest and every eater and every challenge. IFOCE is a big business, the rest are far far smaller participants in competitive eating. MLE cares about its business, first and foremost, what it generates for themselves and the sponsors. The rest is a distant third.

Getting too sophisticated is not cost-effective for MLE. It’s not worth the time and effort. I’ll say again, however, that for the most part they do a good job with the rankings. They can’t please everybody.

i know this is going to sound stupid (and yes I know Hall is a better eater than me) but how does he get ranked doing one competition and I dont get ranked doing 5 or 6?

WB-They only looked at results of the IFOCE top 30 ranked plus The Locust, Kobi, US Male and Jammin Joe . I think you are 40, right?

I think this system is great and should be used to create an eatfeats top 30. Whoever put the work into this, all I can say is thank you and great job!

Please continue to update this as the year goes on.

I want to make a bigger grid with 50-60 rows, but I need to make some changes first. Team contests should be omitted. Currently teammates are considered to have tied.

Ranking System looks more like it. I was thinking there was no way those second tier eaters were listed first. Thanks for making a quicker list. Now all we need is a popularity poll for all the eaters in any venue. Haha Let’s do it!!!!!

Squibb, Pete, Joe & all the others who don’t belly up to contracts and leagues. If ur gonna make an eaters poll it should be all eaters. The ppl who care about this list are on it. I wanna see total rankings. I wanna see the prize tally be more than cash. I wanna see who’s the best of the best… All prize payouts. That’ll keep it interesting and fuel our fires.

Goid. Most of the great eaters go down on team events or descent eaters move up when they team up with the greats. I say team events should never count. No one ever eats equal amounts anyways. Keep it fair bro.

@cutter I know it would appear that Hall is overrated but he is without a doubt a top ten eater! Its due to getting married and other things going on in his real life that he hasent been able to compete more. If you have never seen him compete try checking him out, I think you will be impressed. Here are some of his stats that are listed on the MLE website: 34.5 Nathan’s Famous hot dogs in 10 min., 63 Krystals in 8 min., 23 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 min.

I think you two are in the same locality. Thus you would have a better understanding of his potential. I agree with you Wrecking Ball, but the numbers used in this comparison clearly have him overrated when compared head to head with other eaters. Numbers sometimes do not tell the whole story. Especially if he has been busy with other things, and has not been in many competitions as of late. Basically if he had more head to head action the math model used here would better reflect his standing in the MLE rankings.

I am just a run of the mill eater (not yet capable of 20 hdb’s in 10 minutes), there is one great amateur in my locality and some other good ones as well. You tend to get to know your local eaters well. We all have different capabilities. Not all great eaters right now have even done an event sanctioned by one of the recognized eating organizations. Which is why it is great that over the course of a calender year MLE does contests all across the country.

Dougy… If you paid more attention to what was wrote before you jumped to conclusions you would see that i was pointing out the large gap between Hall Hunt’s current ranking and what might be derived by this model, when I pointed out that he was overrated that is kind of like me slamming his abilities. I am not Hall Hunt. I am nobody but myself. I realize now that there is a reason that math model here grades him so poorly. If instead of comparing head to head stuff you compared numbers of HDB’s or other foods across contest (certainly another way to do a model), then you would find Hall Hunt might actually be underrated.

Hall and I both live in Florida but I have only met him once (at pickles last year) and all I really know about him is what I read here and we both did an article for the pickle cometition. He seems like a real nice guy and there is no question that he can eat. The link to that article was posted awhile ago but here it is again if you want to read about him (@cutter)http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2010-10-21/restaurants/competitive-eating-pickle-style/

Hall Hunt is an excellent eater and a fine person from what I have read. I do wonder whether or not he will continue to be involved in competitive eating. Perhaps someone knows the answer or we shall simply have to wait for the contests to begin. Not having any ability to do any kind of charts, never mind statistics, one thought occurred to me about the comparisons of number of contests and results. Is my thinking correct about this? An example would be when people take standardized tests, the methods of scoring can be different. In one test, one might be credited for only correct answers with no deduction taken for those wrong. In that case, guessing an answer makes sense, you are not penalized. In the other way of scoring, your incorrect answers are deducted from the correct ones so guessing is more difficult as well as rushing to finish everything. Okay, now that I wrote that, I have no idea how this could be used in the competitive eating analysis, just a wandering thought.

I think Hall is rated about right at #28

I am not a mensa member like Hunt, however I am pretty smart. It is likely a head to head analysis doesn’t do him any justice because of the particular eaters that he lost to. 34.5 hdbs in 10 mins is enough for me. Besides you never here a bad word about him. It is probably more likely that MLE is more correct in their assesment than this head to head model.

so after all of this…..lets see ALL the major non-ifoce guys on here. I wanna see the young studs that if given the experience and chance can compete with the big dogs. I wanna see the stonies, the excels, the wus. the longos, the bickels, and the brunellis of the world on this list. And yes i know some of these arent top 25 but top 50??
I think at least 2 of these guys could be in the top 35 in ifoce.

I want to see an all eaters poll!!! Good, bad, and ugly contests. All wins, all losses, no teams, no leagues. Let’s see who is the best of the best!!!!

The best of the best would be a subjective judgment at best. Basically, there is no such animal. All eaters? That would include the world, at least those of us who have food aplenty.
