Initial member of Barrick Burger Wall of Fame

This forum thread states that the only member of the Plaza Casino “Wall of Fame” to have completed the 9 pound Barrick/Big Daddy burger as of October 2004 was a slender woman who is apparently not Sonya Thomas. (Since the finisher looks somewhat like Sonya, she is apparently not Carlene LeFevre either.) I would appreciate it if someone going to the contest could verify if this claim is true.

    Here is my two cents…

I will try to take a look tonight. This wall is not actually at the Plaza Hotel. Accroding to Hall and Joey (who ate the burger last night) it is across the street at another Barrick Casino. It is the first one on the left as your back is facing the Plaza.

Technically I believe that Sonya never attempted the “real” Barrick Burger and/or Big Daddy Burger. Last year we ate just the roll, cheese and meat. That weight was either 9.33 or 9.34 pounds depending on which burger you got. I witnessed them weigh each and every one on stage.

The “real” burger has the toppings on it which would add to the volume. While it is obvious that Sonya would have been able to finish it (in the 24 hour period you are given) she did not actually do it.

Two additional points are that I am suprised more people have not completed this. They give you 24 hours to do it in. Second, one of the workers last year told me that you had to eat the fries as well for it to count. He may have been mistaken.

I will post on Sunday or Monday about this Wall of Fame person and I will try to get a picture of it.

I checked both across the street at the place that sells the burger and at the Plaza. I was not able to find the Wall of Fame. I was told that there is plans for one, but they never made it as noone has ever finished the Burger that purchased it.

I checked as well and no one who has purchased the burger has even come close to finishing it. The only person who belongs on the wall of fame at this time is Sonya Thomas

Yeah, I asked the waitress at the Las Vegas Club about the hall of fame and she thought there was one at the Plaza but I couldn’t find that either. I did witness some drunk guys try to impress their wives and eat the 1.5 lb. burger and both of them failed miserably. But after watching Sonya devour the 9 pounder in 27 minutes, no on else is worthy. And thanks Sonya for ending it for the rest of us, 48 minutes would have been torture, although Rich or Joey would have finsihed before then I’m sure.

I must disagree with Rich. If no one has finished the challenge as specified, then no one should be on the wall. What Sonya has done is something for sure, but it’s not the burger, fixings, and fries. Could she do it? I would be stupid to say anything but unequivocably yes, but her two-time titles are not for burger, fixings, and fries.

The fixings certainly would not keep Sonya from finishing the regulation burger. Remember that you have 24 hours to complete that burger and you don’t have to take up a lot of space with water to get it down quickly. Lettuce, tomatoes and onions also go down very easily as well. It would be a snap for her but why do it when the reward is non existant. If they offered a big prize for doing it; then I would have already done it by now.
