Good luck to you Hall!
About other contests this weekend, since the IFOCE doesn’t seem to want to promote their own sport/eaters, even though some of us do follow it/them, here’s what I’ve found out:
At 1:00 P.M (C.S.T). on Saturday will be the World Tamale Eating Championship. The total purse is $3,000. “Eater X” will defend his title. Other entrants will include Rich LeFevre (may the tooth be in him), Marco Marquez, Pat Bruss, and Wild Bill Myers (from http://www.cityoflewisville.com/wcmsite/publishing.nsf/Content/World+record+holder+prepares+to+defend+tamale+eating+title).
At 2:00 P.M. on Saturday will be the BBQ Sandwich Eating Championship. The total purse is $5,000. Expected to participate are Joey Chestnutt, Pat Bertoletti, Hall Hunt, Juliet Lee and Arturo Rios (from http://www.sunfunfestival.com/beachboogiebbq/activities.htm).
At 6:00 P.M. on Saturday will be the annual Buffalo Wing Championship from Dunn Tire Park, Buffalo, NY. I’m certain that Chip Simpson, the defending champ from last year will be there, and I would imagine that Sonya Thomas will be there also, since she has been present every year. I would also expect “Humble” Bob to attend if he doesn’t do BBQ Sandwiches. That should be a really good matchup between Chip and Sonya. Both have two or more wins apiece in chicken wings. (Sonya won the event in 2004.) The total purse is $2,550.
At 4:00 P.M. on Sunday will be the Buffalo Buffet Bowl. I don’t know who’s attending, since the IFOCE Web site does not list attendees. However, I would not be surprised to see Chip, Sonya, and Bob eat in that event, since they are already right there. Also, “Humble” Bob won the event last year, and he will likely want to defend his title. Since the total purse is only $1,750, I doubt that Joey or Pat will bother showing up for it.
If Sonya does eat at the event, unless Joey or Pat show up, I give her an edge, since I have always perceived her to be a buffet queen, even though I don’t think she’s eaten at a buffet competition thus far in her career. I think that’s probably just a coincidence.
The web site for both events in Buffalo is http://www.buffalowing.com.

Some will pass on the Buffalo contest . The people that run the event owe back pay from last year to judges and performers. The event has been held for 5yrs and you would think Cerza would have the decency to offer complimentary rooms for the eaters or even at a reduced rate. . $95 per night for IFOCE members is no discount in my book .

Tamales was a fall-back position for me, in case I didn’t get into the Buffalo contests. I will be in Buffalo this weekend. From Kevin Carr’s podcast, I assume he will be there as well. The Humble one is expected for both contests, and I think Russ Keeler may be there.
Actually, the rooms for Buffalo at the Hart Hotels (Holiday Inns) are $99, which is 39 to 58 dollars off the rate you would pay if you reserved via the Priority Club website. And with three people in my party, breakfast is free, which would run me at least $20 each day if we had to eat elsewhere. It’s not a great deal, but it’s not bad, either.
