MLE did not let another gem go, what are you thinking? Jamie is likely at his best and with his best choice for him. MLE can find many eaters of Jamie’s talents. There has to be a good fit and good match to be with any organization. So good for All Pro to have Jamie. Let’s get rid of this divide and supposedly conquer and hate on each other. Just makes fan group smaller and smaller.

Cut the bullsh. You know and i know that if APE can acquire a marquee player like a Bear Mcdonald , its like they got their version of Joey . No you are wrong MLE cannot find eaters of Jamie talent so fast. What do you think they grow on trees? It takes time. Great legends come along once every 5yrs or so

Well put anon12:01 and 12:36 Both leagues have there good and bad. Higher numbers are in mle mostly cause of the dunking and extra debris. Ap goes picnic so there is no dunking, and there numbers are smaller. I don’t think Adam Richman helped out eating, instead he hurt it because alot of places hav a 4 or 5 lb item. All the bashing between the organizations are just going to make people lose more interest. You used to get on this website and see contests posted and results from recent ones on the main page, now its getting a little stupid with they’re posts.

I don’t think competitive eating is popular enough to make people lose interest. It is so thinly followed now, and most of the ones only do so to criticize or laugh at the freak show it is.

An icon such as Jamie McDonald comes along once in a zillion years

  15. Reality said

    January 9, 2013 @ 10:28 am

An Icon, really? McDonald lost to every MLE top five eater and lost to a 10th ranked eater. That’s the facts. McDonald only joined APE because those were the only eaters that could feed him and his teenybobber buddies egos of getting a bogus number one ranking. Just last month APE was promoting Stephanie Torres as there number one eater in the world, and then she lost to some amateur of the street blowing APE’s ranking credibility out of the water. Listen quit overinflating McDonald. Every post from Jamie, his idiot friends, and APE gives McDonald less and less credibility. Be accurate and then he’ll get taken more seriously. MLE gets March Madness type athletes on ESPN. APE is the NIT and gets local coverage because of significantly less talent. And, McDonald is number one in a significantly less talented league. Be happy for that, but don’t over promote his abilities. It makes your “icon” look like he craves attention so much that he’s willing to lie about his true abilities. It’s happened to a lot of eaters in the past. Fly by night eaters, with adequate talent they tried to oversell, and eventually everyone realizes the eater was not what the eater, the eaters friends tried to make people believe. Let his record speak itself, he’s the top independent but by no means a top MLE.

  16. Anonymous said

    January 9, 2013 @ 11:27 am

No one organization is el primo. We know your opinion and you have a right to it and make some good points. But calling him out for lying, talking about idiot friends? That takes away from your opinions which are well stated at the end. It is true that how you say something DOES matter. What you say is important of course, but how you say it to make your point should tell about the topic and not be dumbly accusatory.

Your comment of “he’s the top independent” is exactly what was written. Your mix of double talk is interesting. Nice oversight by someone who obviously has the blinders on! Your past posts give good evidence of your intentions here.

You Cult of the Jamie are so out of touch. If saying facts about McDonald is hating, why isn’t hating when you put McDonald on a level of Kobayashi and Chestnut, when he couldn’t even beat a Bertoletti, Janus, Thomas, Shoudt, Stonie, or Lee for that matter. Isn’t it disprespectful hating when Jamie and friends try to disregard eaters that they know are better than McDonald and have put more sweat into competitive eating then McDonald could ever hope to attain. Regarding APE, you were the same people last month saying Stephanie was the number one, better than Thomas or Lee, until she got beat by some jamoke. In fact, without the MLE and eaters like Chestnut, Thomas, and Kobayashi (when with the MLE) there never would have been an APE trying to make money off the road MLE paved, or a Jamie McDonald looking to make a shortcut to the recognition that top MLE eaters have earned through hard work, pain, and tremendous achievements. Who really has the blinders on? Look in the mirror. I will continue to point out that McDonald’s a good eater, but hasn’t earned the type of accolades that he and his minons want some to believe. Oh, and saying McDonald was a top independent was a typo, he’s a top independent, Kobayashi is the top independent.

I think 10:48 pm was being a bit sarcastic. But Jamie is, no doubt, an elite eater, one of which only seems to come around every few years.

Also, the man has improved from when he first started. If he were MLE-ranked I think he would be around #5 or #6, with a bullet!

There are currently nore than a handful of top eaters in APE, and to be even among the top five, or so, is saying something.

It’s a shame that some folks simply wait in ambush to find fault in good things. But, again, that’s the nature of things, however sad that is.

@1:37 Regarding Stephanie. Isn’t that why rankings get changed and people move up and down? You keep pointing out “Stephanie was number one” but if you would take a look she isn’t anymore. I think she lost that spot to Dahl. Thats kind of like saying any of your MLE boys should remain in the exact spots they were in years, months or weeks ago. Since you are so “in the know” you obviously know that Jamie DID beat Lee and has never gone up against Thomas, Shoudt or Stonie so that must also be another one of your typos. As much as I like, respect, and/or admire each of the MLE eaters you mention, Jamie would probably top Juliet every time, and some of the others some of the time.

He’s much better than you give him credit for, and that’s the right thing to do.

Rhonda: I am sick and tired of Jamie and his buddies constantly posting how Jamie is better than so many top eaters and they don’t consider that hating against top eaters. Particularly, when their defacto claims of being the best in the world are actually disrespecting real top eaters that have in reality beaten their beloved Jamie. But, God forbid you confront these kids with the facts about Jamie having never beaten a top eater (name one — I defy you), and suddenly you’re the one that is hating on poor Jamie. I understand friendly jawing, but try to back it up with some sembalance of fact. These Jamieites have no clue what it took for a Kobayashi, Chestnut, or Thomas earn top ratings and they need to understand that they are hating when they disrespect top eaters with outrageous claims of Jamie being on or above their level. Besides, outrageous not fact checked claims eventually become fact in the minds of some, which does further does disservice to real top eaters. Remember, the Susan Frenches, Dale Boones, and host of others looking to make money, fame and fortune off the back of real competitive eaters. Once again, I don’t hate Jamie, he’s a good eater. I just find the Dale Boone direction he and his friends are posting and at APE distasteful.

FACTS!!! Jamie is a ROOKIE first and foremost he hasn’t even been competing a full year. Second @reality he did beat lee correct yourself. He is not MLE quality @237 are you joking hes at least top 10 if he were to join and there is only room for improvement. Another fact he did a hot dog contest in nov 8 minutes long and he ate 38 HBD at nathan’s he wouldve beat out Adrian Morgan who only ate 35 in 10 minute contest. In my opinion he would be top 7 mle and with another years time he could be top 5. All that being said I believe Jamie puts up a big front. He has this fake nice guy act about him. He hates losing and am shocked hes not going to mle. Maybe he just enjoys the damn spot light which he wouldnt get in mle and knows there is no one but Kobayashi that could challenge him outside of ape. Maybe he enjoys the money. I don’t know the reasons why he went with ape but, the ones that lose out are the fans that wanted to see he compete in mle and see if he could potentially take number one spot there. I really think hes just a quiet, pretending to be nice guy, attention whore with a great deal of potential OH WELL …… Also why is hungry haydo winning the polls for best rookie of the year runner up vote for anyone american that guy sucks. I guess unless you go completely monkeyfu@k about something here, no one will recognize this incredible talent – well unless he wins contests that are actually attended by more than 50 people. Anyway, who knows? He made a choice knowing that an average eater’s career lasts 3-4 years (unless you’re in the MLE top ten).

Good Grief 6:53 pm, you certainly have passion and are riled up for facts about Jamie and that is all good. I would much rather see strong opinions based upon FACTS and then let others say otherwise if they want to. Well, not so sure about some of the statements, no one but Kobayashi could challenge him outside of APE, but you certainly state and overstate (imo) your case in some places. Though many readers eyes will glaze over reading so many details since some just want a quick look see, this is the place to write in detail. EATFEATS IS IT.

Wow, Huh, you and your aliases need to get it together. When you look in the mirror, I bet the reflected image sort of resembles Reality.

That wonderful database of OJ’s–don’t need it, but thanks for bringing it up. I’m certain OJ appreciates it. One thing you need to do is to learn to comprehend what you read. First, no where did I assert that Juliet never finished ahead of Jamie. I iused “would probably,” implying future—-not past. Second, are you so naive that you think experience has no affect on CE ability, that one’s ability remains static? Remember Sam Vise’s when over Joey Chestnut in the 2005 US Open of Competitive Eating? Six months later and on Joey would have likely lapped him in every contest, were he to compete against him. And now that might even be triple.

Now, this is no respect to Juliet Lee, as she is an elite competitive eater, regardless of gender, but 6:53’s posting above helps me make my case for Jamie. On Jun 2, 2012, yep, she out-ate Jamie in ribs 4.56 to 4.14 lbs. Jamie was very new to CE—-still learning how to eat. He seemed to be figuring that out just a month-and-a-half later. Jamie lost to Tim Janus, MLE’s #3 eater, by a mere 2.5 pulled pork sandwiches: 61.5 to 59. Juliet, in that same event, ate a most respectable 43—-still 16 sandwiches behind Jamie. And I strongly suspect it may not even be that close now.

So, if you want to blow smoke, up my ass is the wrong direction!

    Have a great day!
    RLE

Let me once again preface this post — Jamie’s a good eater, but quit overvblowing his potential or his current abilities at being an eater on par with Kobayashi and Chestnut until he’s actually done something. I’m not hating on the guy, APE promoters and his his idiot college buddies (who don’t know the first thing about competitive eating) could be the problem with decreasing Jamie’s credibility with idiotic claims of unprecedented greatness. Jamie’s never, and now that he’s gone APE, will likely never beat a top eater. Rhonda is right that Jamie will, most likely improve, however I’ve found that it is the competition that drives improvement, and Jamie’s decision to go APE means he will be eating against less than talented eaters. His drive to get better is only diminished against APE eaters who he can beat with ease. Sonya on behind the scenes has said that Juliet has a vast improvement in Juliet of late, and I think that’s because she continues to eat against the best. Matt Stonie’s decision to go MLE has increased his speed and volume. In fact, I could argue that Kobayashi’s decision to go independent has diminished his skills. And, Rhonda I can assure you I’m not using aliases (besides never using my real name) this post proves others feel the same way I do.

Reality, thanks for sharing your thoughts in your last post (10:26). I think Jamie has already improved a bunch over the past year.

As good as MLE eaters are—-and I’m biased toward them, if anything—-I have to give credit where credit is due, and I think Jamie has more than proven his CE prowess, regardless of whom he eats with, or against, or which organization he’s in or not associated with.

I do agree that consistently eating against better eaters helps make maximize opportunity for improvement. As such, having Jamie as an independent should greatly help his opponents get even better.

Anony Jan. 9 2:33 APE promoter: Thanks for underscoring what little knowlege YOU have in competitive eating. So Jamie never lost to Juliet or Matt? I guess you you need to get your facts straight. Jamie scratches at top 10 MLE but that’s about it. Jamie knows it, his buddies know it, and APE knows it. Jamie just thinks he can make fame and fortune at being the best in minor league than being pretty good in the majors and hope dopes don’t know that being top APE is vastly different than being top MLE. It’s a calculated gamble that was first initiated by Kobayashi. However the jury’s still out that being top independent is more of a money maker than being good in the MLE. That’s the story from someone you proved is in the know about competitive eating, obviously more than you. Regarding Stephanie, just last month you APEs were going around trying to sell to anyone outrageous claims of APE number-one Stephanie being on par with a Sonya Thomas until your credibility got shot down when she lost to some dude off the street. Sonya would never lose to an amateur’s first contest. So don’t even compare APE’s suspect rating with MLE. If I were Jamie I’d tell you APE promotion dopes, please don’t ruin my credibility like you did with overstating Stephanie’s skills.

If you can’t argue the facts just back off on your stupid claims about Jamie being the end all, and best eater ever. Jamie deserves to be ranked number one in All Pro.

If he joined mle when he had originally planned, he would certainly be top 10. More like top 5. & no one, including those ranked above him

would want to see him at the table. With his body builder dedication, I believe, as I told him, that if he went w/mle he would beat Chestnut

    in 2014 @ Coney.

While he has lost to some higher ups in mle, they were either early in his career, or when he was injured. I would not have compEATed w/the

injury he had. He’s also lost to me & Brunelli, but those were in contests that were speed contests which is what Bruno & I specialize in.

Jamie seems to enjoy eating as often as possible. I believe this is the primary reason for him not joining mle. That, along w/freedom AND

the ability to go up against the most well known eater in the world, Kobi. Also, only Joey & Kobi have made more $$$ than Jamie since Jamie

    has been on the scene.

Let’s congratulate Jamie McDonald for his accomplishments and APE for signing him. 38 hotdogs and buns presumably and being a rookie, who knows how he would measure up in MLE. Whatever the reasons, his, MLE’s, others I have no idea. Since there will never ever be match-ups between two organizations, there is nothing in it for MLE, they work for the sponsors period and have enough eaters no matter the qualities and quantities they can eat, MLE puts on a good show and promotes products. That ‘s what they do, that ‘s it. APE does the same thing charging less and getting far less publicity and they do not have Nathans and a national broadcast etc. If they work really hard at it they could build to get more publicity, but honestly, a Randy Santel, a Pete, anyone and everyone, with the internet can make themselves known and get a following. Time to stop trashing and saying this one could beat that one, well say it but if it hasn’t happened in reality, it is just speculation. Organizations and contests need all stripes but the better ones are where everyone does not know in advance the outcome. So having one person who keeps winning all gets boring. MLE has a good top tier because Joey is not unbeatable in other disciplines than hotdogs etc. And the sport needs colorful people. Boring but fabulous eaters also need a persona. Maybe Jamie chose to be the biggest fish in a smaller pond and knows he will get more benefits, maybe even financial ones from APE. He will certainly get to be in contests more freely.

Great post 6:05. I can only hope you are, or are someone who has, influence over Jamie, an APE person, or one of Jamie’s happy band of teenyboppers who are constantly coming on here and dissing eaters like the top 10 MLE eaters with outrageous claims that he could beat them, and is better than them. I’ve got no problem with Jamie playing in his own indendent sandbox. But, it’s Jamie and his crew that starts all this nonsense with their idiotic, non-fact-based claims, of being on par with Joey Chestnut, inferring that Pat Bertoletti, Tim Janus, Sonya Thomas, Bob Shoudt, Matt Stonie, Juliet Lee, etc. aren’t as good as McDonald. Fun jawing against eaters is one thing, but the Jamieites had gotten out of control and need to be reined in with their stupid claims. As long as McDonald’s people stop the nonsensical crap of being a legend, best eater ever, etc., I say more power to McDonald, a good independent eater, who looks to have a promising competitive eating career ahead of him. Jamie and his crew are young, maybe they’re finally learning from the true competitive eating legends like an Eric Booker, that a little humility can go a long way.

I meant, of course, 8:05’s post, not 6:05’s in my previous post. Sorry. Hey, it’s friday and I guess my concentration was on visions of beer in my head. My point was, if MLE and APE could have a kum-bay-ya moment and quit the comparisons between leagues, congratulate each other league’s eaters for their own accomplishments in their own leagues, things in the competitive eating world would be much more sane. If, for example, MLE and APE and their eaters would stop using the term “world record” when an eater establishes an achievement and start using the term “MLE record” or “APE record” that could be a good start. It might also add a little more credibility to an upstart league like APE with the media, unless APE wants to take the route of Dale Boone’s league which has no credibility.

I referenced legends LIKE Badlands who I think we all can agree impitomizes humility. You can make you’re own determination who else should be on that list. Shoudt, Janus and “the few others” in other references, were caveated with et cetera, so you can also fill in who else should be included there as well.

You cannot say enough good things about Eric “Badlands” Booker. When you look at the man’s total body of contributions to CE over the years, along with his most unselfish personality, no one in this sport is greater—-not even Koby—-no one!

I’d better shut up now, as some folks interpret that giving credit to someone and not mentioning them is the same as a total slam against them, and Badlands will end up being the object of disdain, out of sheer jealousy and selfishness.

Sad state of affairs when that happens.
