A press release announces that Jamie McDonald will face Molly Schuyler in a fried mushroom festival at the Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, PA on September 7. The top male and female amateurs will both receive $200 at that contest.

    For complaining about how much travel was an inconvenience to her and her family, and how much it costs, Molly seems to be getting around the country. Connecticut last month, Pennsylvania next month.

    On a different note, I find it fascinating and sort of amusing, regarding the spin put on “rankings” (and the organization with whom the eater is ranked with).

    In reality, rankings are absolutely meaningless. It’s accomplishments (wins and records) that talk the talk. Sometimes they match up with rankings, and sometimes they don’t.

    Most fans quickly knife through all the hype, and see things for what they really are.

    You will be surprised how much impact the rankings have on eaters in the organization and fans that follow the sport. Some actually believe that your place in the rankings reflect your actual eating ability

    JMHO, 9:59: Most of the few thousand world-wide fans who REALLY follow CE are die-hard, astute ones, who don’t fool easily. CE is not a true sport. Like wrestling, it’s a pseudosport—-sports entertainment, at best. (At worst—-a sideshow for strange people with weird talent, promoted by silver-tongued ringmasters.)

    Do you believe wrestling fans really think the world champ, the intercontinental champ, and the US champ, for example, as well as the #1-ranked contenders for each title, are the very best wrestlers, without question? Hardly, it’s the same for CE.

    It is, however, more as you say (about rankings having more meaning), for real individual sports like tennis and golf, where world rankings are held in higher regard.

    You are wrong Rhonda. Even though you and i know the rankings are a joke , to some, ranking a eater #25 when hes really more like 45 gives them a fake edge to the dopey fans that actually believe you are what you RANK

    Rankings matter for media, camera time, and bonus/invite-only events. Whos the one person doing fish tacos in calgary? Also, reporters and cameramen don’t do enough research to sift through performances. They gravitate towards top ranked eaters. So rankings arent really a joke, but they’re not accurate either.
    MLE top ten hardly syncs with performance… All pro top 4: mcdonald, Dahl, torres, menchetti. Molly’s not even ranked, and 31hdb would put her pretty high up. Stephanie’s been out for over a year.
