(via twitter) Jamie McDonald won the hot dog eating contest held at Fish Tales in Ocean City, MD on July 4 with a total of 35 hot dogs. Nick Rivers and Dale Boone were originally tied for runner-up with 25 hot dogs, but deductions put Boone in third place. (gallery)

I like Jamie, but I don’t like that he is earning money from MLE contests AND also doing indie contests. MLE either needs to get him into a contract, or lock him out of MLE contests. He should not be allowed to collect money from both as the MLE contracted eaters cannot without getting thrown out of MLE.

I’ve got the same problem with this. I understand the desire to compete in another hot dog venue if you can’t get into Nathan’s, but being able to do any contest you want is kind of a slap to the contracted MLE eaters.

I think Jamie has only won money in one MLE contest (the only MLE contest he’s been in)… if he signs up for another, you can bet MLE will make him sign on the dotted line…

I wonder if MLE is going to honor the fact he took second and will give him his money for boneless wings.

The MLE should allow Kobayahsi, Torres, LaRue, Philbin, Menchetti, Goldstein, Ross, Wells and whoever else got out because of the their stupid contract/rules. Be consistent or screw the rule.

He was also at Mohegan Sun Ribs, listed under James McDonald. Won $750.00 there as well.

    @DD

Kobi, Philbin, Ross and Wells respectfully left on their own. While Torres, Scuillo and LaRue got caught slipping. Goldstein didn’t leave so respectfully but left before he did an outside contest. Not sure if Mechetti left of was booted.

either way, MLE’s rule is pretty stupid non the less and if Jamie wants to compete in another MLE contest, they won’t let him without having him sign a contract.

I don’t think you’ll see Jamie presented with an MLE contract. He appears to be too much of a risk to bolt, should he sign.

Also, more and more eaters with promising potential are presenting themselves every few months, some of whom MLE is bound to feel more comfortable with signing.

Boone was at the 25-HDB level (give or take a dog) when he left MLE nearly a half dozen years ago. He was smart to exit the organization, outside of which he can proclaim himself “World Champion” of the part of the planet he resigns himself to.

Jamie Mcdonald will either go around beating Dale Boone and Nick Rivers for little money paying his own way or he will start competing with Chestnut and Stonie for big money getting air fare and hotels for free. We will find out in a few days what he wants to do

I stand corrected, that contest was a good 2 weeks before Boneless wings in which he did a few indy events. Way to stay on top of things MLE!

What about Dave “Hurricane” Solomon doing independent contests, like the Montbleu Casino taco contest in May? Is he still under MLE contract? Granted, he wasn’t that good, but neither is Kevin “LA Beast” Strahle.

He’s obviously a vomit machine, no one can churn 4 contest/challenge’s in 4 days without killin the toilet, and then keep doing that. He seems like his got ability down, but wether or not he has the disipline to get better and get really good is yet to be seen. Just my personal observation, but people who are loose cannons with challenges/contest like he is tend not to be smart about it. We just have to wait and see.

I think that ultimately its up to the powers that be I did an MLE contest last year & got a whole bunch of crap when I did the chef 1 contest right after later on that week. If you sign a waiver not a contract it shouldn’t matter you’re still a free agent & can do whatever you please. Or even if you’re signed with the MLE or were signed its their say so in the end. Don’t get on sombody for doing them just like with Lefevre if the MLE let him in the contest its on them. Jaime is a cool guy & 1 heck of an eater there’s no doubt in my mind that the MLE won’t offer him a contract at the end of the day its eating its all in fun & if you can make some extra cash doing it then its cool too

If MLE has a gut feeling that another organization is trying to reel him in only then will they make him.sign a contract

He seems good enough to consistently place near the top at MLE contests.

Jamie, if you’re reading this you have to weigh the pros and cons. Do you think you can make more money doing independent contests or MLE contests? Ask Furious Pete and Stephanie Torres what they think. Torres has made more money in a year than she ever did with MLE. Furious Pete wouldn’t get to do half the things he gets to do if he were with MLE. Unless you think you’re a legit top 5 eater in MLE then stay independent.

If more than one of the IFOCE top five show for contests, he would be far better off as an independent.

I agree with 935 in regard to Pete but up to a point. Although it is true that Pete is free to accomplish a lot more without a signed MLE contract he would still like a chance to go up against Pat Joey and the rest of the big guns. That would be his only incentive in joining MLE.

The only factor that may have him going MLE is nathans. If another contests gets that big, and its an indy or all pro, then MLE might as well close up
