The MLE Facebook reports that Joey Chestnut lost to a team of 5 amateurs at the Francisco Street Food Fair, 31 tacos to 27. TheCloveMan has a video of the contest.

Cip was one of the five amateurs. He ate 3 tacos and won $100 and a year’s supply of Pepto Bismol.

    Another MLE and IFOCE rank eater was beaten today. No # 39 Rank Damien Boykin lost to the WLOCE World Champion Dale Boone . Go to show you IFOCE is no match for WLOCE eaters.

    When Charles Hardy Don Lerman Ray Meduna and Ed Jarvis left the sport i stopped following . Those guys added charisma and charm. Reminded me of SF Giants and Pitts Pirates of the late 1960’s

    These stunts are over the top. Even if you are the best eater in the world, there’s only so many people you can hold back in a “man vs team” contest. I don’t believe it helps Joey’s image to lose these kinds of contests either. A champion should be the face of victory.

    The new players certainly can eat more, but if you go down the line, the old characters had far more interesting personalities. Joey and Bob just do not have any exciting qualities. Pat is a fun character but un-predictible in interviews. Juliet and Sonya are somewhat limited because of language ability. Same goes for Koby up until now, but his eating is certainly the best in the world at present. Too bad for MLE that he is now independent. Badlands carries many of the shows, should have absolutely been on the new Wall. That was a very low blow for someone who is so dedicated to CE and MLE. Yet he has earned some significant money recently and is clearly a very forgiving person. For media, how can people wonder why Legs and Tim get so many opportunities? They live in NYC, free for MLE. Legs has been doing freebies since the very beginning, they are reliable and do not criticize sponsors or MLE or other eaters. If Gravy or Pat or others lived in NYC they might get more opportunities. Winds have shifted big time. More opportunities for all eaters in some ways, fewer for those in MLE. Bringing Koby back would shift the landscape again, perhaps not to the benefit of IFOCE/MLE eaters but certainly to the benefit of MLE and fans.

    anony 9:40 am and Brian Seiken is chopped liver right? He has never contributed jack sh– to competitive eating right? He lives in Ny and gets ZERO opportunities. Of course Legs and Tim never criticize sponsors or MLE because all the perks and freebies have been handed to them on a silver spoon since day 1. Cut off their air supply and see how long it would take before they started bitching. Shows how narrow minded you are if Badlands Booker is the only source of credible entertainment in the entire sport or maybe you believe in what you want to believe out of prejudice or the bad press that Brian gets on this site.

    Regarding Koby, Sonya, and Juliet: Prowess at speed-eating not only far out-trumps fluency in English, it’s an elusive language spoken by few, but envied by many.

    Koby and Sonya do their talking at the table, which is the antithesis, of, say, a Dale Boone, whose game IS talking. With few exceptions, when he’s done speaking … he’s done!

    Right now, the IFOCE rankings are strictly national. The best eater in the world is Japanese, and he’s not even in their top 50, nor is the top independent eater in the world, a Canadian, who is better than all but about six or seven IFOCE-ranked gurgitators.

    The term “Major League Eating,” therefore, is merely a biased marketing ploy. That’s like saying the best eater in the world is in the minor leagues.

    And the “I” doesn’t really exist in IFOCE. It should simply be called the Federation of CE. All “ranked” eaters are US-based.

    Speaking of Sonya and top eaters … The Buffalo Business First website confirms that Joey and Sonya will be eating against each other at the Buffalo Wing Fest.     Rhonda your opinion of the IFOCE is as messed up as how OJ runs this trashy website. Because they can successful run a business their way and not to your liking gives you no right to criticize their product.

    Those who are not in the IFOCE due to contract disputes or morally motivated reasons made their choice not to eat with the best. Hey some people prefer the Arena League to the NFL.

    Uh, the ifoce doesn’t have the best anymore, Kobi is indy.

    No disrespect intended to Joey, BUT perception is reality & when the the world thinks of CE its Kobi they picture.

    Also, hasn’t kobi only lost to Joey, or anyone in hdb’s??

    Joey lost to Sam freakin Vise in the 1st rnd of Alka, & to Monson, & i’m sure to others, I don’t pay nearly the attention I used to.

    In fact Man V Food pops in most heads b4 Joey.

    Kobayashi finished behind Pat Bertoletti in the 2008 Krystal Square Off after receiving a 2 burger deduction. This is the only time he finished behind an IFOCE eater besides Joey Chestnut at an event other that the Spike TV contests.

    OJ you are the master of stats. Yet, don’t forget Cookie and other old timers tried set up Kobi and break her fruitcake record and he failed. So, in fact, Sonya bested Kobi when it came to fruitcake. Now Joey’s going to try to dismantle Sonya in Buffalo. Pat learned the hard way in Buffalo last year that Sonya’s pretty good when it comes to wings. This ain’t a beauty contest where people judge how much meat you eat off the bone like wings in Philly. In Buffalo you weigh the amount eaten. I still say Joey’s the favorite, but this should be interesting. Speed is the key, it’s a food that dunking don’t matter, this should be fun.
