Koby is the GOAT… Joey can match him, barely and painfully. I would love to see this.

Koby would have a tough time trying to beat Molly or Stonie let alone Joey.

If you saw the movie Hungry George Shea says look Kobayashi doesnt want to be here alluding to the fact that hes scared That is such a crock of shit. If he shows up in Coney and challenges Joey on stage youll have him arrested again and hes not signing the contract so maybe George should have rethought what he said in the interview

Kobayashi defeated Chestnut easily in his final USA MLE contest, the 2009 Krystal Square Off

Is Joey planning on retiring soon? I read somewhere he might after he reaches 70 HDB at Nathan’s.

I also heard in a comment here that MLE pays Joey a salary of $20,000 since he threatened to leave the organization and they wanted him to stay. Don’t know if that’s true.

Joey Chestnut’s MLE annual earnings are claimed to be around $200K.

The contracts Kobayashi rejected reportedly guaranteed him $20K-$25K a year

Interesting. Thanks for the link OJ.

    In the article, it states:

“Shea contends that they offered Kobayashi a contract of over $100,000 that would cover four events in 2010, and that, win or lose at Nathan’s, Kobayashi would walk away with a guaranteed $25,000, in essence a flat appearance fee. Any prize monies awarded by the holder of the event would be recouped by MLE.”

So basically, he would just be paid $100,000, and even if he chose to do extra MLE events then, he wouldn’t be able to keep those winnings? $100,000 is good, but if joey gets $200,000, I can see why Kobayashi wouldn’t sign that contract. But he has made far less money on his own, so maybe he should have signed some MLE contract, maybe the same deal Joey got? I guess I would want to know how the $200,000 paid to Joey breaks down. If Joey has only has won about $60,000 in the past year from winnings, is the rest what MLE gives him via a salary, or are there other fees paid to him, like appearance fees (which MLE presumably gets a part of)? Could Kobayashi have gotten a similar deal?

If Joey ever does retire, it’s going to hard to forgo that $200,000.

529 you believe everything you read? According to Kobe no such deal was offered or even if it was , he has no interest in association with MLE .

Let me be the first to say that a Brian Seiken fund should be established within the MLE organization. The money should only come from the eaters that cashed in during an event while a small portion of the eaters combined earnings maybe 10% should go towards Seiken travel expenses . If you want to be even more generous , donation towards appearance fee would certainly be in order. I would not mind breaking the ice and fork over some of my winnings to a legend and entertainer Hopefully Sudo Chestnut Stonie and a few other money making eaters will do the same
