Citing health issues, Joey Chestnut announced his withdrawal from Friday's Jack’s Donuts World Donut Hole Eating Championship in New Castle, IN. This will extend his winless streak to about six months and sets up the possibility that he will enter Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest with no 2022 victories. update IndyStar reports a positive COVID test was responsible for the withdrawal.

Very interesting. I wonder what his health issues are. Will he be ready for Nathan’s? I imagine, in spite of advice to the contrary, he would do Nathan’s. Otherwise he would, in effect, be retired.

    If he doesn’t do Nathan’s
Molly should do it. I’d wager she has the highest number. Anyone else notice the ONLY qualifier is in Dc? I doubt it’s coincidence.

Imagine no Joey at nathan’s… the upset for MLE and the opportunity for others would be huge

So it would be Geoff Esper vs Matt Stonie vs Pat Bertoletti vs Darron Eats vs Nick Wehry for the title?

Here in China ???????? we hope Joey is ok. We need him to win so our Chinese owned Nathan’s can continue to feed Americans our Wuhan weiners.

Esper would win Nathan’s for sure. Too bad Molly can’t compete in that, she’d do really well

Saw online Joey is in Covid protocol. So that’s the health concern.

A press release said BBQ in DC will hold a Nathan’s qualifier but it might not be accurate

I wander if the Nathan’s are smaller now because of the Chinese ownership. They do look smaller than other brands

I think Chinatown should hold all qualifiers since they own Nathan’s. Have Chinese New Year champion

Has Joey even been competing this year?

Joey’s only competition this year was the Wings for Wishes contest in Miami where he finished 4th. It appears likely his most recent victory going into July 4 will be the St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail contest from early December.
