July 3 Coney Island Humans vs. elephants eating contest

(Via eater) The Brooklyn Papers reports that Coney Island will host a hot dog bun eating contest between three unnamed humans and three elephants from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus on July 3. George Shea has the following quote:

“When most people see elephants, they see the majesty of nature. To me, I see an arrogant animal that needs to be taken down a notch,” said an unabashedly pro-human Shea.

Comedienne Lily Tomlin protested
the elephants’ Coney Island appearance before the eating contest was announced.

No wonder the IOC frowns on CE being an Olympic event. CE’s supposedly top advocates seem to turn it into a joke. If they don’t take it serious, who should?

Oh well, I guess the kiddies will like it.

Maybe next year man’s best friend can be put in his place in a dog food eating contest —- a bonafide puppy chow down.

An event with circus animals? I couldn’t think of a better way to get rid of the sideshow stereotype of CE.
