KC Royals start all you can eat tickets

KansasCity.com notes that the Royals have started a new class of ticket:

This weekend, the Royals held the first of what will become a semi-regular promotion in which fans can buy a club-level seat with unlimited hot dogs, nachos, peanuts and soda.

“Oh, we’ve seen a lot of people through here who could do some damage (in competitive eating contests),” says Shawn, who worked the All-You-Can-Eat concession stand Friday night. “Especially peanuts and hot dogs.”

What do you think competitive eating has to do in order to be taken seriously as a main stream sport? Also, this article raises an interesting question, do any of you eaters worry about the effects that this type of eating and training will have on your health?

I don’t think there is enough structure in the sport to be taken seriously as a real sport. Maybe if there was more value put into each competition, something that contributes to a final outcome, more people would follow it. How far would baseball go if all the games were just exibitions? No world series, no season playoffs, maybe the point system that the IFOCE is trying out will advance the whole sport. There is still work to be done.

I’ve never taken better care of myself….In order to stay in shape, a lot of us run daily, eat a ton of vergetables, drink lots of water – I ask people that worry about our health to look at the average football player – any game on any level features constant injury…..The only competitive eater I’ve heard of even almost hurt was Boone when he started choking once, and now Mr.Jawritis, Kobayashi….and I hope, for his sake, that’s not completely true!!

Paul – who is this “us” you speak of? Are you calling yourself a competitive eater? Wouldn’t “recreational eater” be a better term for you and most of your friends down south?
