Kobayashi article in Japan Times
The Japan Times has an article (in English) about Takeru Kobayashi’s plans following his defeat:
“I was surprised to find myself optimistic even after I lost the competition this year,” Kobayashi, 29, said in a recent telephone interview with The Japan Times. “And that is probably because my records have been improving and I am convinced that I can still develop myself.”

He is already by far the best eater in the world. If he develops himself any further he might as well eat by himself or simply do exhibitions.

Pound for pound, Kobayashi is the best eater in the world! He would have won the hot dog eating contest if the results were adjusted for bodyweight. Is competitive eating getting to the point where they need weight divisions?

Sorry, I have to disagree. Pound for pound, Pac Man is clearly the best eater in the world.

(Butch) Weight divisions would not be a bad idea, nor would separate divisions for male and female eaters. There needs to be more female competitiors, however, to accommodate that.

In horse racing when a horse wins its moved up in class and races in a better division other wise its dull it wil dominate the field at all times plus there is a maiden race where they put 10 horses who havent won in 2 years in the same race assuring that one of these ”claimers” will have a victory , this system should be adpoted in competitve eating events …don lerman
