Kobayashi baseball card / food challenge party
In his most recent blog entry “Humble” Bob Shoudt mentions that he purchased a Kobayashi baseball card. A picture of an autographed Kobayashi card appears on the ephemera blog. The card is used to illustrate a report about a food challenge party:
In the days before Kobayashi’s reign as the Hot Dog King, I had the pleasure of attending a food challenge party. The party wasn’t billed as such, but when one of the guests mentioned that they kill time at the office by wagering with co-workers as to who can consume certain quantities of various foodstuff in a set amount of time, we couldn’t help but try out the concept. One partygoer ate a Chrysanthemum for $20. It was a quite a sight, but nothing compared to seeing a petite woman eat an entire chocolate sheet cake whilst standing on her head. It was one of the most amazing stunts I’ve ever witnessed. Upon accomplishing the feat, the diminutive young lady received a crisp $100 bill for the effort.
