Kobayashi considering competing in Wing Bowl
Philly.com has a blog entry about Takeru Kobayashi’s appearance in Philadelphia today where he considered an offer to compete in the 2011 Wing Bowl and sampled chicken wings which were reported as the first he had eaten, even though he competed in a 2007 wing eating contest in Las Vegas. The blog entry cites jaw health issues, and not a contractual dispute, as the reason Kobayashi did not compete in the 2010 Nathan’s finals.

A Koby – Wingador matchup? Is this a hint that Joey Chestnut and the other pro eaters won’t be allowed in? Wingador could not even come close to Chestnut so whats make him think he can compete with Koby? Where is that slouch Squibb in all this? Bring a real eater and true champion like Patrick Randall Deep Dish Bertoletti into the picture and watch him rip all these “other” eaters.

2:31 am, a little more information would be useful. Whoever is allowed in, Wing Bowl is a different spectacle from all of the eating contests. Any Pros know this going in though Kobayashi may not. Whatever happens, should be interesting.

Though I hold Koby’s eating prowess in the highest regard, there’s a fair chance he would not win Wing Bowl, which features 30 minutes of subjectivity, local bias, a raucous crowd, and R- (or X) rated pageantry.
The story’s headlines the next day could easily read, “Local Hero Devours World’s Greatest Eater in Wing Bowl.”
That local hero could easily be Jon Squibb. Okay, I admit, I’m probably crazy, but that would make a pretty good storyline.
PS: I admire Koby probably more than anyone, but I’m tired of hearing about his “jaw ailment.”

Kobayashi is not to blame for the jaw ailment reference. The writer definitely got it wrong. No article about the 2010 Nathans referenced anything but a contract dispute.

Lets not forget the other local guys Wing Kong, Steakbellie and US Male who all have the wing talent to take down Kobi & Squibb. You may want to make a special trip to vegas Rhonda and lay some money on these underdogs

RS II … that’s a riot! I love that you have a sense of humor.
I know WB is biased and all that, but damn … that would be one hell of a s-t-r-e-t-c-h!

The only way to hold a wing eating contest is to weigh the wings. Until they weigh the wings, Wing Bowl is just a beauty contest decided by whoever the people who run the event want to win that year. The current wing champ is Sonya, who defeated Joey in Buffalo after they weighed the wings. Kobi should be advised to stay away from such an event.

this is Koby’s chance to enjoy the greatest, strangest, most fun contest in the world. Who cares if he wins or loses? If he goes, and participates, he’ll have a great time….ask anybody that’s been there, I bet they’ll verify that

I haven’t been there SPBBBBMBBB, but I’m sure Koby would have a great time. It seems like all the things you say it is, based on all I’ve read and the pics I’ve seen (as well the pics with body portions blacked out).
Koby just needs to become aware of how things work at that event, weigh and evaluate the information, and decide what’s best for him.

Koby is a champion and a true competitor. I am not at all sure that he would enjoy the party. Rhonda is correct, if he is fully aware of what Wing Bowl really is, he can choose what is best for him.

Agree with Rhonda. I admire Bob’s allegiance to the local boys, but Koby would out eat them 2-to-1. It’d be nice to see Kobayashi on a big stage like Wing Bowl. I’m sure he’s used to some pretty crazy scenes from his eating days in Japan (and Nathan’s), so I think he’d fit right in at Wing Bowl. All he needs to do is wear a Flyers jersey and he’ll be okay.
