Kobayashi eats 387 bowls of noodles in 2001 contest

Another contest from the 2001 Japanese Nathan’s qualifier is available on youtube. In this competition, Takeru Kobayashi eats 387 small bowls of noodles weighing 9.67 kg (21.3 pounds) to win. The noodle servers, who refill the bowl immediately after it is emptied, are almost as impressive as the eaters.

Koby can eat more than that now, and in much less time.

Hatsuyo Sugawara is “The Witch” who I believe, beat Gal Sone in a competition relatively recently, but, as stated before, Gal Sone is more a television personality as well as competitive eater and widely known in Japan. I am sure that Rhonda is more than correct. Kobayashi could eat a lot more wanko soba today in the alloted time. He was just beginning. Look how much Joey ate in the “beginning.” The best part is indeed watching the servers.

You know, I would love to see Kobayashi go to the grits contest. If he could eat 21.3 lbs of noodles then, imagine what he could do with the grits contest NOW.

Thanks for chiming in Rona … I miss your remarks.

It is my opinion that people in this country know Kobayashi is a great eater, but they have no idea just HOW great he is. I hope that some day he will move over here, so that he can participate in about a dozen or so events per year. (He’d win at least 11 of them … ALL of them if they stop drowning HDBs.)

If that were the case, there would be none of this, different eaters taking turns beating the top-ranked eater in the world like there is now, with Pat and Bob taking turns topping Joey. I mean, with Koby, there’d be none of that crap.

Of all the events and foods, I’m telling you right now, he is better at many foods than he is at water-logged HDBs and dry Krystals. The man’s talent knows no bounds!

    And he’s number 2 … go figure.

Let me tell you, assuming the grits were like they were a couple of years ago when Pat won with 21 lbs in 10 minutes, Koby could stretch and sign autographs for the first 3 or 4 minutes and he’d still end up with about 24 lbs. It would be a slaughter.

Kobayashi gets 20,000 just to show up! No wonder he doesn’t compete more often. Who knows how much of that the Sheas get?! He deserves more if you ask me.
