Kobayashi has most everyone’s admiration, doesn’t he? The bigger thing seems to be staying current. If he can’t play in big contests, he’s gotta do something.

I think Stephanie should challenge that new record.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think some people read too much into Kobayashi’s character (the negative comments). As Naader said, he has to do something since he isn’t doing MLE contests. It seems that his manager/agent is suggesting things for him to do to keep himself in competitive eating news. What his future could be? He needs something to break out again, and I have no idea what that might be. If his English were better or even excellent, he might have commercial opportunities, but that doesn’t look like it is in the cards judging from his go at it recently. He seems to be enjoying himself though, perhaps that is enough. He gets to live in the US via a special visa for his unique talent, that is pretty unusual in and of itself. Twinkies? Funny and so American sweet.

Conti held the twinkie record with 25 in five minutes as a stunt for wingbowl

While I sometimes berate Koby’s actions for not re-signing with MLE, and for doing these non-MLE-affiliated private challenges and claiming he broke an MLE record.
However, that doesn’t change my view that Koby remains (thinking of Shawn Michaels) the Headliner, the Show-Stopper, the Main Event, as well as the Legend of CE.
And, I have to say, he is as good now as he ever was. His speed is second to none, and his stomach capacity is second only to Joey—-a very close second.
Congratulations to Koby on another Guinness Record! (I’d like to have a pint of Guinness right about now.)
Now here comes Wing Bowl … Oh Lord, I hope he made the right decision. May he not serve as a launching pad for a local eater’s “stardom.”
Competitive eating? Not really. said

Kobi isn’t a competitive eater. He is a guy who can eat a lot fast. The object of ce has always been to challenge people against each other. Kobi eats what he wants, when he wants against himself. He does exhibitions you could see at a carnival. He’s being put on a pedistool for the mockery he is making of the rest of us. I wish he’d realize it’s a sport to all of us, not a sandbox for him to stick his damn head in.

The rules for Guinness Book clearly state that they DO NOT recognize gluttony as a world record. If there is a record to be set in seriousness, THEIR rules state it must be completed in under 2 minutes. So how does this count as anything?

Uh … I’m not very good at math or reading, but isn’t one minute LESS than two minutes? And isn’t Koby holding a plaque with a “Guinness World Records” certificate on it?
Gosh darn, I must be confused then.

11:22 is right. Besides Nathans and an automatic bye in Krystals , when has he ever competed on the circuit or at the table with other eaters?

Guinness sets very particular conditions for what ‘they’ will recognize as a world record (for anything). If they believe it will endanger health, or safety, or morals, they won’t recognize it. They state that they do not condone gluttony. For that reason, they refuse to recognize categories of eating that go above a certain time limit, or that deal with “excessive” quantities of food. They feel that records for the “Most _____ Eaten in One Minute” are acceptable (not gluttony), even though most actual competitive contests run for 5-12 minutes.

The Guinness burger record Kobayashi set in Japan was 3 minutes.

I think the real criteria for Guinness recognizing an eating record is whether they receive money and / or publicity.
12:14 Kobayashi competed in the Glutton Bowl, US Open, 2006 Johnsonville bratwurst & other contests.

12:14 … UIh…Johnsonville Brats. He still has the World Record.
Uh … What about Glutton Bowl: Set the record for Pan-Seared Cow Brains and won the event.
Uh … US Open of CE … Won that event.
When did youi first start following competitive eating? 2011?

@OJ totally agreed on the money/publicity tag required for Guinness to recognize a record. They bend their own restrictions on those instances and there are other examples besides Koby’s 3 minute burger run. I was paraphrasing and quoting from an email response I received from the Guinness records committee in which they explained why they wouldn’t recognize any eating records across 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour (or more).

Those records do not count. . In MLB you play 162 games per year . in NBA 82. You can’t go to the World Series unless you contributed to the team all year round .

What ever happened to pie eating contest style throw downs? Where big guys challenge each other and go head to head? Now it’s training, throat relaxers, reversing, water training, plastering ur face all over the news or Wendy Williams. The sport gets like no credit these days. It’s all about a self serving Kobi. Joey, Sonya, Badlands, Squibb, even freakin Boon makes it about the sport. I’ve seen/heard enough of Kobi to make me reverse already. Let’s talk about actual ce news.

Ok he set a new record. What are we supposed to do?? Celebrate his life? Start a Kobi fan club? I am sure he would love it. How is Kobi going to enhance our lives by setting records for himself ?

I think that Guniness should seriously consider changing their rules regarding food eating records….
It’s such an awkward format + it doesn’t flow with any sort of contest enviorment. It’s like saying homerun records can only be set using metal bats (since the MLB only allows wooden). It’s just a pain.
Congrats to Kobayashi though. Twikinies might seem low, but on a decently watched TV show, any stunt is a good stunt!

Guiness format records are tougher to obtain than standard APE (picnic-style) or MLE formats. I remember that BS when Koby set one of the records in NYC a couple of years ago. I think it was meatballs. He had to continually open his mouth to show that he had swallowed each meatball, one-by-one, before he was allowed continue. This went on for the duration of the event.
It’s no exaggeration in saying he spent as much, if not more, time showing his empty mouth to the judge as he did swallowing each piece of food!

Thats exactly what im saying. They should seriously adapt a universal standard, or at least partially, like pic-nic style. Ironically, aside from nathans, most MLE contests are in fact picnic style. Just alot of eaters choose to disobey. But it would seriously help meld the MLE world into the mainstream “indy” world a bit. It would be a way for the two standards to offically compete to show whos on top

Wing bowl is fixed…that duper squibb clown leaves all kinds of meat on his bones. They deduct based on who they already know will win. Unfair, fake and fixed. They should weigh the wings if they want to come correct.

Guiness Records are a business, just like MLE. Their rules are weird, and they make them up as they go along. OJ nailed it. If they can get money for it, a sponsor, publicity, they will do it. And they have competition, lots of it. The whole open the mouth close is beyond ridiculous, makes someone look like a……cannot even find a word to describe it. Still, if you asked anyone, absolutely anyone whether or not they would love to hold a Guinness World Record, they would likely say yes. It is just a publicity thingie, and in this new world of internet with anyone able to write a blog, Guinness is far less of a big deal than it once was. It has name recognition from the past, they have branded themselves well. But that is in the past. Why would they have any interest whatsoever in dovetailing with competitive eating? That is not their problem or their place. They have to do what is best for Guinness, everyone else has to fit in if they want to.

He did 16, it seems one was deducted because he didn’t open his mouth after swallowing it and the last one was sightly out of time. Just pointing it out, i know its not that important. BTW How much dry are those Twinkies? (not from USA, sorry)
