Krystal Square Off V purse $50,000

An announcement on KrystalSquareOff.com reports that the purse for this year’s Krystal Square Off will be $50000. The prize breakdown:

1st $20,000 2nd – $10,000 3rd – $5,000 4th – $3,000; 5th – $2,500; 6th – $2,000; 7th – $1,850; 8th – $1,500; 9th – $1,400; 10th – $1,250; 11th – $1,000; 12th – $500.

12 prizes and 11 known slots (7 qualifier winners, 3 wild cards and Joey Chestnut’s bye) probably implies that Kobayashi will also receive a bye.

    Pete you should think tiwce about who you want to eat with. There will be times when you will read about big bucks in an IFOCE event and wish you were in it. If i were you i would make the move before its too late

    I have to say that the Krystal Corporation is by far the best sponsor in every way. Not only do they know how to treat people, but they know how to run a successful business. I’m sure the former is a significant determinant of the latter.

    I really admire them on their prize structure. Every person who makes it to the finals will have earned the right to be there, and, thus, deserve a bit of the prize money. Krystal’s prize structure accomplishes that, while the top two or three eaters are still richly rewarded.

    There’s surely a lesson here that should be emulated by other sponsors.

    Pete, just because some of us were told we are banned, doesn’t automatically mean you are. For a gauranteed four figure payout, along with a chance at $20k, it never hurts to ask. If you really are interested I still have a phone number you might want to try

    I have enjoyed being the (second) best in the minor leagues. Would I enjoy the IFOCE more? Impossible to know. I wanted to do their events and was willing to play by their rules and they still said I wasn’t allowed. A chance at the highest level and a chance at $20k would have been great. Instead I earn a few thousand for a few weekends a year. No complaints with where I am, only complaint is the feeling of being discriminated against — not being given the same choices everyone else is given

    Goose, I think the issue is that you have too much history with AICE – I think they’re afraid that you’d come over to IFOCE, then jump ship after the “big” contests back to AICE. Pat Bruss moved to IFOCE last year, but he didn’t have the longer span of time in AICE that you do.

    Not sure who you are talking to, A., but for myself, when I first applied for Nathan’s qualifiers I had done three AICE events, none of which were in conflict with any IFOCE sponsers

    Goose, I think they are afraid to admit that you would beat some of thier top level people, and that would look bad for them. The point about them being worried that you’d “jump ship” afterwards, is valid, but that is also something that could be worked out. Anything can be negotiated these days, so just a blanket “no” is pretty weak.

    To say that you didnt have a choice isnt true, I contacted both orgs to try to find out the advantages of each before I signed anything. I think had I gone independent, I would have always wondered (as I improved) how I would stack up against the IFOCE.

    Certainly I have pangs that I cant eat in any old weekend contest sponsored by some festival or bar, but the trade-off is that I get to particpate in some wonderfully run exculsive contests, namely Krystals or even the SPIKE TV gig. Some people like the Nathans contest as well.

    Still the fact is that in my modest career of three years I have won $0 in prize money. While thats pretty piss poor considering the time and money I’ve invested in training and traveling, I dont regret joining the IFOCE one bit. When I get my ass kicked, it’s by the best in the world. Somehow, thats enjoyable to me.

    I’m certainly not knocking the top AICE eaters. I really do have alot of respect for you guys. You seem pretty happy with your choice in general but to be upset about this is like a single guy who’s slept with every girl in town being upset that he cant sleep with some hot chick because she’s married.

    Steakbellie, when I first started my only window into competitive eating was the hot dog contest on Fourth of July. Then one year in late July I was happy to find a contest that I entered only because it was close by. To say that I had the choice to turn it down and wait a year is certainly true, but it is unreasonable to think I entered with the full knowledge that it would forever disqualify me from Nathan’s and every other IFOCE contest

    It feels more like the 18-year-old who fools around with the a 17-year-old and get branded a sex offender for life

    Here’s the straight dope, Furious Pete. If u want to be a big baller, then you have to be in the IFOCE. There’s no 2 ways about it. If you treat CE like a JOB, and you want to make 20-30K a year doing it, stay in the AICE. There is NOTHING wrong with that. You can do that, not beat Joey or Pat, and make that money. But if you want to be the BEST in the world & get recognized for it, u need to be in the IFOCE. Money don’t mean a damn thing.
    You will NEVER get prime-time ESPN or any other TV coverage in any other organization. You may make more money, but you will NEVER get the notoriety & fame. Now it’s easy for me because I derive no income from CE & all I get is the attention, & that’s all I want. But YOU have to make that decision. You know I’m right. It’s the difference between being number one in the IFBB and number one in the NABBF, both pro bodybuilding organizations. Furious Pete, u know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

    I’m not bad-mouthing the AICE or WLOCE or any other organization, but let’s not dance around the issue. I wish we were all in the same organization. But there is NO DOUBT that the top 2 or 3 people in the IFOCE are the best in the WORLD. I’m not hating, that’s just a fact. And the top people in other organizations who can’t compete in IFOCE can hide behind that fact they can’t participate in IFOCE events, but they know it’s true. Joey, Pat, Koby are the top of eating crop, no matter what, and that’s just the truth. And the truth hurts. Dr. Bigtime has spoken.

    You’ve given me a good genuine laugh. In some ways you are right, I know as a newbie I nearly chose to go Independent as I thought the rift between the two orgs was a laughable joke. At the time my only concern was that I be allowed to compete in the WingBowl again, and that I had heard of Nathans. I guess I was lucky that I called the IFOCE and I think it was Kate that explained that they were serious about the exclusivity. I could easily see how a new eater would have no idea of what they were stepping into however.

    Arnie Chapman doesnt want to lose the biggest meal ticket that ever fell in his lap so one would assume that he is in correspondance with Furious Pete trying to convince him to stay with his dumb organization after reading some of the “Sell Pete to the IFOCE” remarks. Pete , i can understand your loyalty and you are respected in that regard , but as Bigtime stated , if you want to make the serious cash or make a huge name for yourself go with the IFOCE. You will be placed on a pedestal and treated like a king.     The point that is not being mentioned regarding Furious Pete’s entering Krystals is that Pete is not willing to subject his body to the crazy training regime that would be required for him to place in the top four. Pete knows that he does not have to make that type of commitment (potentially subjecting himself to harm to his health) and still enjoy competitive eating.

Whoever you are i will lose zero sleep knowing that you have made the ultimate choice of not going on my site once a week. If i made a dollar or even 50 cent for every fan that logs in , i would go out of my way to try to change your mind but considering that will never happen , i could give a rats ass about your one day a week loyalty. If someone decides to put me on their payroll then i could easily report the news in eatfeats fashion with a big smile like Misterogers neighborhood.     Juris is spot on with his comment. Pete and Goose would have to make the commitment Joey, Koby, Pat. Bob and Tim have made to reach their level. Pete and Goose are obviously great natural eaters but natural ability can only take you so far (see Sonya and Rich). To get to a higher level they would have to become fiendish in their training and only they can say if it would be worth the sacrifice.

    These three still are ranked in IFOCE and still eat in other contests including AICE. I hear one or more of them are being courted to join Dale Boone and his WLOCE show.

    So this shows that IFOCE allows ranked IFOCE eaters to compete in AICE contests while still being able to remain ranked in IFOCE.
