Las Vegas Sun: Miki Sudo withdraws from Nathan’s finals
update Rake & Herald has confirmed the withdrawal. This will leave the women’s finals without the two top performers in the qualifiers: Miki Sudo (40) & Molly Schuyler (31)
Rake & Herald noticed that the caption for Las Vegas Sun’s gallery of Miki Sudo at Wednesday’s Hooters wing qualifier announces that she has withdrawn from Thursday’s Nathan’s finals (She will compete in the Hooters finals).
Rich Shea made no mention of Miki withdrawing on his interview on ESPN’s Mike & Mike show earlier this morning.
The withdrawal notice did not appear on the original caption of the gallery which is available in the Google Cache (date June 28)
If the withdrawal is not of Miki’s volition, she has the option of filing a complaint with the Nevada Gaming Control Board that a contest held on casino grounds reneged on its prize.

You really have to wonder whether or not MLE has tried to file some complaint against eatfeats. I am surprised at OJ’s not seeing that these are two very very different instances. Given the lay of the land, so to speak, I’m not surprised.
For those who closely follow CE, this is bigger news than will be results of both divisions. For those who don’t follow CE, which is the vast majority of viewers and casual fans, this is a nonevent.
To most of us on eatfeats, including me, it’s disappointing. But, then again, I’d be much, much more disappointed for Miki, if, after the event, she got beat down in the news. And there are some real ruthless people out there who pose as newspeople and journalists, who would seek out and melodramatize any negative event, knowing that bad news far outsells good news.
The negative backlash could very possibly ripple through both Nathan’s Famous and MLE, making the risk-reward ratio very, very unfavorable for both, especially for Nathan’s Famous.

I also surmise that Miki will be monetarily compensated by Nathan’s for “agreeing” not to participate. Nathan’s can certainly afford to pay her a handsome amount, considering what they might have to lose, if she did participate.
Also, I’m not convinced that Hooters won’t do something similar; we’ll have to see.

Though I’m tickled that Nathan’s is no longer centered around Joey anymore. If Miki really is out, I won’t be watching this year. The only reason I watched in years past when Koby was out was for Pat, now that he’s also gone an no Miki, I’ll prolly just catch the numbers later in the day on here or on my twitter feed.

I believe Wip reappealed, & “voluntarily” made a $4,000. donation without a finding against them.
None of this money went to Chapman.
Even if Wip was found at fault, without the money going to Chapman, in my mind, it was pointless.

Miki Sudo did not get a free pass and was not determined to be guilt free. She was very lucky. What she did is still a crime, and her punishment for this was light and obviously some factors were taken into account to let her start her life again. Nevertheless, no one would be being mean to google her and find out exactly what she did and put that information in the press. It is the truth pure and simple. That is what real news is. It would be ridiculous for Nathans to trumpet her on July 4th. She is frankly a public relations nightmare. If she is paid to go away that too would be really bad. Do the winners of each qualifier get any money besides going to Nathans? I would be shocked completely if she did compete on the 4th. And in the end, for her, she ought to find something else to distinguish herself and keep herself out of the news for a while.

Seiken finally gets his big break. He’s been sniffin up to Kobi for years. Doubt MLE is happy with him now with what he wrote about Sonya and Miki. Sonya must not have been happy either to have to make a statement. Who caused all of this? You guessed it, about to become Mr. Independent as fast as he can run. Or else as soon as he reads this he will be calling headquarters begging them to keep him. He never goes to Coney anyway, always gives excuses or goes and runs away. Didn’t get a special pass to crap in the same place as the eaters, Sonya didn’t give him a special pass. He wanted to attend all of Kobis special events, now he could compete. Go for it Seiken. I don’t know about Soyna’s numbers, 2:16, but I look for TBW to eat 46-47. Like last year, I think she will eati her age in HDBs.
I’m really interested in the battle for second in both divisions, between Juliet and Michelle, and between X and Matt. I think Juliet and Matt will take second, but the younger eaters may prove me wrong.

The fact of the matter is that Miki Sudo is the #1 woman eater in the world, regardless of her rankings with MLE or whether she competed in Nathans or not.
