I am glad that I read this site on a daily basis because my radio has been broke for a long time in my truck and i doubt that i would have found out about the event by pure chance. I meet the requirements for this contest. I had prematurely assumed (wrongly) that because JackFm pulled out of las vegas that there would be no wing bowl this year. Hoping to qualify on first attempt. Oh sorry Matt, I am sure you would kick some vegas ass. Looks fun and stuff.

yeah and no pros means i actually got a chance. i don’t know how you go through life without eating wings on a regular basis. I see myself more of a challenge beater and not really a great competitive eater. my short game needs improvement, and from everything i see, competitive eating, when it comes to competition of people vs. people, it is more about the speed than it is about capacity and endurance. If I could do better with the breathing early on in events that might help, also my friends say i don’t drink enough water while eating, if not reminded to drink i usually don’t. I keep trying to beat 2 mins on the triple king (fatburgers signature burger), and that is how i know my short short game sucks cause i can’t ever beat 2 mins, rarely do i beat 3 mins. however my capacity just keeps improving and now when i do local challenges i actually have room for more if i had to.
the fun part will be actually meeting some las vegas amateur eaters, i am aware of several pros from the area but unlike a bunch of you guys from southern cal, i don’t think there is much of a social networking of amateur eaters in clark county, at least i haven’t seen it yet. It is really neat that several of you guys (mostly non pros), have networked together to publicize certain challenges and do some of them in groups.
I hold all of you in fairly high regard even though i only know you from your eating adventures.

Keeping it local isn’t exactly a terrible thing. It’s incredibly frustrating to see a contest dominated by out-of-towners… though there are a handful of Clark County eaters who should be able to get the job done.
I’m not in Vegas often, but when I am I would definitely network with some of the locals to do stuff (Cutter and anonymous 436). Always cool to meet new eaters.

I wonder if faking your way into this contest, or similar ones, using a fake name, is considered more morally objectionable than a pro eater violating their contract to enter a restaurant eating challenge?

@ Wu
I See where your goin and it makes sence lol, but in my opinion, you have to weight the motive
1. pro sneaking into AM contest is most likely just to grab some asy money (since only PR is on the alias)
2. pro eater breaching contract to do a challenge is probley just them wanting to do something fun
so ids say sneaking in is kinda low and selfish

Sneaking in with a fake name is a tough prospect if they ask to see your ID.
When pros sneak in, it’s generally not the top guys who do it. It’s MOSTLY the middle to low ranked eaters who don’t get anything by being in IFOCE other than the nice label of “professional eater.” They can’t beat the IFOCE Top Ten but generally do very well against independent local eaters. Though obviously there are some strong independent eaters like Matt Stonie, Stephanie Torres, and Johnnie Excel – who have never been part of IFOCE/AICE/WLOCE but hold their own in speed eating.
People make their own choices. From my conversations with others, I have come to the conclusion that IFOCE (or other organization’s) membership doesn’t offer most eaters much. Having the label of pro eater is cool, but ehhh….. I’d rather be free to eat anything, run a blog, use my real name (or a fake name if I choose), and go around without having to keep my activities hidden from some organization that’s giving me nothing.

Sneaking in seems like a horrible idea from a moral perspective, an economic perspective, and also how your eating peers may then view you. I don’t think anybody eats for money. Actually if i ever obtain any winnings whatsoever from eating I am donating it to the humane society or other charity that i believe in.
I agree with NReda about the pro vs. non pro choice. But if i was offered to be in a pro circuit I might make the decision to drop challenges and amatuer contests all together. I surely don’t have to worry about that anytime soon.
Oh yeah i took a challenge tonight and failed! It was a challenge that i completed before and i was trying to get the best time (which according to the rules you are allowed to do up to 3 times), which resulted in myself blowing chunks with a few bites left. I feel humbled and humiliated. I don’t believe that i would have finished it anyway even if i were not going for a record time. Funny cause the first time i took that challenge i had 3 beers about an hour prior and had virtually no eating experience or practice. Now i come in to retry a challenge with other challenges under my belt since then, a strong feeling of my speed and capacity and i fall on my face, despite feeling wonderful before the food was served.
Wings however have me optimistic, what a feeling of catharsis. I can’t remember the last time i hurled. Had some dairy afterwards for desert and feel much better. Food beat me today, hopefully i will beat wings tomorrow.
