The website for KLUC radio (an appropriate sponsor for a chicken eating contest) has a page about the 2012 Las Vegas Wing Bowl. Qualifiers will be held on Wednesdays and the finals on February 3 will award $5,000. The contest is restricted to amateurs from Clark County, NV.

They do not make clear what pro eater is. They mention being member of eating organization, but good independent eaters with Nevada residency (Tom, Juan, Rich, etc) …I hope they allow them to enter!

I think in years past they stopped some of those guys from playing… which sucks. Well, Kevin, now we know we aren’t in.
Unless… we move to Clark County next week…

Yea, its a very grey area. Hopefully we’re allowed to partake, though it mentions in the rules that if a person has won $600 or more in the past six months, then they are disqualified. Making it hard for Tom, seeing that he won the spaghetti contest in Nov.

If there is a way to screw a quality eater, they will do so. They want some schmuck who stumbled in to win.

I never will understand the mentality of these contests that want joe schmo to win. Isn’t it more impressive to watch good eaters take down tons of wings, then watch randomly chosen people nibble on wings like they’re watching the game at a bar? Makes no sense to give away all this prize money and not get a good show!

I wonder if The Locust could somehow get in to that.

The rules prohibit IFOCE / AICE members from competing, which I assume would apply to former members.

Juan – yeah, right. Wasn’t Bartolini’s an AICE contest?

Bartolini’s was an independent contest last year.

I know of 3 pro eaters in clark county (El Toro, Rich, Ron). A few others eat at a professional level but have never been affiliated with an organization.
Outside of this, the event has been a blast.
I didn’t read this years rules and how they differ from last years but Juan said they mentioned $600 in earnings in last 6 mos. At least that is more definitive.

I think that is $600 in winnings from contests run by the station, not from competitive eating.

No pros period..As part of IFOCE I cant compete with independants or other federation eaters. Until I retire I will abide by the rules.

If ‘Wrong’ directed his/her response towards my contribution, I thought it was clear that Clark County had 3 pro eaters and I named them.
