Don “Moses” Lerman retired from IFOCE. He wanted to compete but they said no. It is good to see “The Great One” still able to pick it up and knock em down.

This is my first time seeing Arnie in emcee action. That dude is crazy. Definitely taking a page out of the George Shea Nathan’s playbook.

Arnie is the best master of ceremonies out there.
Sometimes it can be hard to eat because all you here is the great commentating from Arnie and you just want to watch him.
“Oh my god, Tiny Tim just put the hammer down on his 30th pierogi”. All in that great mc’ing voice of his.
He can really get the crowd into it as well, and keep them into it.
I must admit to watching Nathans on tv George Shea cant hold a candle to Arnie.
There is no comparison, you got a nerd in his church outfit and gay hat with a pre-pubertic voice VS a real guy, with floppy dog-eared hat and a commanding voice and presence that demands respect.
Its been an honor and a pleasure to eat for such a great guy and awesome organization.

I sort of think the money goes where the talent is. Its easy to act like an imbicile.

Don kicked my ass at curry. Im good on quick sprints, thats it. Don would hand me my taint on any comp over 8 min. I would like to go head to head with him on a 7 min contest one day though. Could be a really good comp.

Arnie will go to extents people have to see to believe when it comes to MCing…you think he’s about to have a heart attack near the end.
I do think he needs to find a thesauruses though, or just brainstorm more creative words other than “Puts the Hammer down”….saying it 100 times in a contest makes you want to smack him. I

Now you know what we go through in the IFOCE when the most creative G shea could come up with is “Elvis has left the building”

I agree. Arnie’s got the energy and charisma, but can be repetitious. The best I’ve seen him is when he has a straight man, i.e. collegiate comps and strawberries when Chris was helping him out. (Although at Strawberries he was hilarious for other reasons…) I think it just breaks it up and directs him and gives him more of a chance to think of something different to say.

Serious part: I’m sure Arnie does a very good job as MC, as does Wing Tut. With all that said, I’ve been following CE for nearly a dozen years, and George Shea is in a class by himself.
And I’ve never been more emotional about such an issue since the birth of my boyfriend’s new girlfriend’s first child!

When Sonya first came on the scene, I loved George’s metaphor stating that Sonya was a cross between Billie Jean King, Anna Kournikova, and a Jackal loose on the Serengeti! And I also liked his description of Jammin’ Joe LaRue as the missing link between God and man.
I surely miss Mike Castellano as an MC, and he did a wonderful job in that capacity … a super nice guy!

I have to agree with Rhonda about George Shea. Watching Nathan’s on tv isn’t watching him MC. It’s watching him do some introductions and then listening to lackluster commentary by Rich and the announcers.
At King’s Island before the contest he told all of the eaters “I want you to go out there and show the audience love. Give them love and attitude or I’ll embarrass you.” or something along those lines, it was hilarious.

Rhonda…….you have been following CE for nearly a dozen years? That is even longer than me who began via Legs before I left for Japan for the first time in 1998 when he took me to watch Nathan’s. Though there were lots of press people in attendance, probably many from Japan, if there were 150 spectators, I would be surprised. I learned how to cheer in Japanese and did so, not much has changed in that department, but look at Nathan’s now. Gives one pause.
