All you readers better ask the IFOCE about their judging. My sources tell me this is another example of no consistency with supervision and judging. This Dave guy is a joke. Double plates, debris, miscounts. Quite the debacle. Gravy drove all this way and was treated like this?

All of IFOCE is a joke, if you ask me. Twice a year, they come up with rankings that are based on nothing more than choice. It happens in the top 10, but especially in the 40 places beyond that. If what the Shea brothers come up with is the best in competitive eating, then competitive eating has a LONG way to go before being “accepted”. In short, ALL organisations right now suck. IFOCE, and Boone and the others.
It would help if the money-hungry Shea brothers published their ranking criteria.

“Joke? ” has it right, basically if you aren’t top 5, it’s not financially worth it… and the she’s couldn’t give two shits about anybody outside the top 5 anyways (and the way they rank the top 50 shows exactly that), yet they are a bunch of control freaks telling you can’t eat here or there and if you do, you can no longer be part of their clique.
If you’re not top 5, you’re better off going indy anyways. Look at Pete, who is prolly as good as Gravy or Denmark, yet he’s made over 14K this year.

I partially agree with Luther. Goneya needs to retire. The female version of DML. She doesn’t have it any more and ranking her at # 4 is like ranking Seiken in the top 10. Better she could be in the top three in a senior league where she can still be competitive, maybe with Seiken, LeFevre, Lee, Lerman and anyone else who draws Social Security, along with other B and C level eaters.

anony 9:14 there is no purpose to these remarks. Everytime results are posted from a MLE event this is what you normally expect to occur. I liken it to the hecklers in the ballpark screaming nasty comments to the ballplayers while waiting in the on deck circle before they come to bat .

Joke and Former are on the right track. what people seem to overlook is the ifoce and mle are pr companys which use eating as a business tool, not a sport promotion. Take alook at the black whatever casino deal , they have no “special food ” to put out just something to get people to come in and gamble the food is secondary.The eaters are trained dogs and if you preform well you get a buscuit if not you go hungry. The rankings are based on your value to sell thier product, people that show well and can afford to go to many contests will be ranked high no matter if they have any ability.

Bertoletti indeed won the eating contest, however, in first official best-dressed eater contest that counts towards 2011 results, he was only 4th.

I know Bertoleti ate a lot, but don’t you sort of expect him or Bob to win? They’re not exactly tiny tots. What amazes me is how someone of Sonya’s size can eat 20, and she does something similar or better at each and every event. For me she’s quite the story in every contest she enters. Way to go Black Widow!
