Mashed.com has an article "The Untold Truth of Competitive Eater Sonya Thomas" which makes no mention that she has been radio silent since July 7, 2018 with no contests, interviews, website updates or social media in almost three years.

    There are 2 pretty interesting videos on YouTube of Sonya gorging herself on a Korean gameshow from a while back. The channel is called Backent – Old Entertainment. She eats until she’s sick to her stomach and kneels down, looking about to hurl. I’m not sure if she does because they cut away. Then she stands up and everyone cheers.

    The greatest female gurgitator of all time also didn’t brag or gloat. She was classy and entertaining. Thank you Sonja for all the joy you brought us. Good luck you in your future

    I used to really enjoy following Kobayashi and Sonya in earlier days. They made competitive eating enjoyable and fun to watch and keep up with. There certainly are talented eaters now, but they’re just not that interesting.

    Perhaps Sonya quit because of her age and wish to stay in good health. I hope she does get her own franchise or restaurant.

    Very humble that’s what people like. The Black Widow had that There are some new and better but they gloat about themselves. That’s what people don’t like.

    I agree 4:14. Sonya was also very private, and did not go out of her way, outside of her own website, to bring attention to herself. In the 14 or so years that she was a competitive eater I don’t recall her going out of her way to being attention to herself. No eating challenges. No YouTube channel. She also had respect for those who preceded her, which is a rarity today.

    I think what people liked about Sonya was the fact she could compete at a high level…….until a bunch of competitors revealed that she was notorious for cheating. She was still very good……but not as great as she was made to be. I would say most new competitors don’t gloat……at least not more than they’ve deserved

    I agree Sonja is the best female competitor ever. The gal that won the Nathan’s last year looks to be over the top into herself. I don’t like the way she gloats. It’s very ugly and mean. Seems like nobody cares for her including myself

    Taking actions to pull others down does nothing to elevate oneself. On the contrary, that’s what you do when you’re down on yourself, which is so unfortunate. Everyone has something good about them. They just need to see what’s before them.
