Thanks Don. I wondered why the product had been pulled from its product locator. I called them a few days earlier, and they haven’t called back at all.
Nathans also is phasing out the Bigger Than The Bun Hot Dog, which comes in a 14 oz. package of 8 dogs, with each one being 6.5″ long. They are assigning its UPC to their Bun Size Hot Dog package, which comes in a 12. oz. pack of 8 dogs, with each one being 5.5″ long. So, the consumer is getting 2 oz. less for the same price! This is outrageous. I am going to call them and complain.
Don, where do you buy the Natural Casing ones?

Depending where you live, you can buy then by the dozen at any Nathan’s restaurant. Then you know you are getting the real thing.

And thanks to 9:41. I appreciate the advice.

I called a Nathan’s restaurant and they said they do not sell them by the dozen, at least not the Nathan’s in that area. You would have to buy them individually, cooked.

Nathan’s has updated their online store to sell natural casing hot dogs at five per a pack, instead of six:
http://shop.nathansfamous.com/3pack-original-recipe-all-beef-franks-with-natural-casing3.html
However, they still have the old picture showing six per pack, and they list them as five hot dogs per 12 ounces. If this is not a mistake, this means that the natural casing hot dogs have increased in size from 2.0 oz. to 2.4 oz. each. This does not make sense. The new package must be 10 oz., not 12.

I saw the new 5 dog pack in the supermarket. The total weight is 10oz not 12. Price is the same, around $5.50.

They cut them to 5 Don so Seiken only has to buy 2 packs for his practice run.

The larger restaurants will sell you uncooked dogs by the lb or doz. Try Coney Island or Oceanside LI. The smaller rest stop places won’t.

The natural casing dogs should be sold 7 in pack no more than $3 per pack . Anything higher in price is ripoff. Nathan’s coney is best deal. $6 lb you get 12 natural case dogs. Buns 12 pack o think is $2.99

Perfect! Thanks 6:59. I will email Nathan’s to update their website!

Ok, good idea. I had tried only casinos that had Nathan’s in the food court. I’ll look into real Nathan’s restaurants.

That’s a fabulous deal. Other than Costco, the only ones I am finding are like $0.80 to $1.00 per hot dog, which is way too much.

Thanks for the tip 11:43. I think Nathan’s is phasing that size out though. Plus, that one doesn’t have a natural casing. But that is a good idea to try for non-Nathan’s contests.

the bigger-than-the-bun dogs were already cut from 57g to like 42g a couple years ago. sucks that nathan’s is failing, but screwing your customers over is not the way to get your books back in the black.

Another option is to practice with Sabrette natural casing dogs as long as they are the 2oz variety and taste much better than that Nathan’s crap.

Sabrette is very good and sometimes they are on sale 2 packs for $6 Would never pay $5.50 for nathans natural casing especially after they minus 2 dogs from original 7

Sabrette has a hint of hickory flavor that is very good when grilled.

Thanks for all the info on Sabrett. I would very much like to try them. Unfortunately, they are only available on the east coast and parts of the south, according to their website:

Thanks capn brian for that info. I only know about Bigger-Than-The-Bun because it was the one remaining package that they had at a local grocery store here the other week It stated the hot dogs were 50 g (or 1.75 oz.). It was mixed in with tons of Bun-Length packs (43 g or 1.5 oz. per each hot dog). But both packs had the same UPC, so that’s how I knew they shrunk the size.

yeah, and the only reason it matters to me is the contest dogs are 57g or 8 to a pound, so it doesn’t make sense to practice with a smaller dog, you end up throwing your numbers off. maybe similar to the hollowed out dogs they give the pros lol.

Chestnuts dogs in Coney are special order cooked to perfection and possibly hollowed out to inflate the totals
