The new poll asks what IFOCE top 15 eater will receive the biggest advantage from the dunking ban and the addition of large burgers worth 5 smaller ones in the 2009 Krystal Square Off.

    Bertoletti for sure.
I’ve seen that video of him eating White Castle burgers without chewing.
He was just swallowing them whole.
Dispite tht fact that he was drunk as hell that is an awesome EATFEAT.
I give Pat a lot of respect and admire him as an eater.
And I think that he is an awesome picnic style eater.

The biggest advantage will be to those outisde the top 15. No dunking will make the top totals lower, and the usual lower totals won’t look as “bad”.

That’s a real interesting poll question. LL has a good point if you’re looking outside the top dozen or so. For eaters that could only eat 25 to begin with, well, they’ll still probably eat within two or three of that amount. But it will be all academic, because 25-Krystal eaters won’t make it to the finals.

I know for sure who will be hurt the most, but I’ll just keep that to myself.

All foods considered, the best picnic-style eaters are Koby, Pat, and Joey, in that order. Sonya, X, and Bob aren’t far behind, but there IS some separation between those three and the top three.

We need another US Open of Competitive Eating, in order to get a taste of various eaters’ specialties. I also like the Eats of Strength idea.

It is such a treat to see Koby and Sonya eat with a fork—-Koby is a machine when he eats salad—-just as it is to see Pat eat an array of foods with or without a fork: pure unadulterated speed!

Joey, I’ll give it to you … in HDBs, I think you’re untouchable with or without dunking. You’re the best ever at Nathan’s dogs, and you deserve to be, given the immense amount of practice you engage in. And since HDBs is the most noticeable, heaviest-weighted food in the inventory, you’ll probably remain #1 in the world as long as you continue to win that event, regardless of how you do elsewhere.

    That’s the nature of things.

I think the people who said Juliet Lee should explain themselves. The only possible explanation for saying that would be with no dunking there will be no chance of her getting disqualified for eating messy.

EaterX, Hoover, and Sonya will do well. They are always slow and steady. In this case I think slow and steady wins the race. Of course Joey, Pat, Bob will do well because they are all great eaters in general.
We have all seen how those last three can swallow huge chunks, but do you seriously think they can do that every few seconds for 8 minutes. I think that would be MUCH more tiring than keeping a slow steady pace of slightly smaller bites. I don’t think Joey, etc will be able to utilize this advantage for more than a dozen Krystals or so before they are forced to eat slower like everyone else. Only time will tell.

There will still be “overly aggressive food handling,” but eating dry Krystals is unexplored territory for the eaters (except in practice, perhaps). So those few who rely on such tactics to put up respectable numbers won’t have yet perfected their craft—-perhaps in a couple of years, but not yet.

Please, god….make them have another US Open of Competitive Eating – and make it happen in Vegas again….or we’ll settle for Honolulu, or anywhere

Hall gets the biggest advantage. Any MLE eater can train to get better with a certain food. Isn’t Hall the only top 10 eater that lives in an area where they sell Krystals? If so you know he will be training his butt off with those Krystals every day to perfect his technique with the new Krystal rule.

The US Open, as it was called back in 2005, was an IFOCE initiative, and therefore open only to IFOCE eaters. Any such future event would be organization-specific, open only to the eaters affiliated with the organization putting it together.

US Open – I’d love it to be open to everyone…even though I’d endure my usual beating. To finally get to meet everybody – we would all have a blast – oh, yes, and the eating part would be cool, too!

I agree that Hall will be practicing his butt off, as you say, since he does have a clear advantage over all of the other IFOCE top 10 eaters, residing in Krystal country.

While Hall’s CE IQ is probably a bit less that the one achieved on the Stanford-Binet, Hall’s still a fairly smart, and extremely zestful competitive eater. He’ll have his game under the new rules down to a science.

His totals, therefore, probably won’t suffer as much as that of most other eaters who make the final table.

Eating DRY Krystals will be trouble for many. Krystals at the store are hot and fresh. They do slide down easily.Krystals during a contest have been sitting out for 2 hours or more. The buns are hard and dry. The meat is tough and chewy. First aid help might be more needed now with eaters gagging on the dry product. If an eater spits out the product as they are choking on the dry product, will that count as a reversal of fortune or will it be overlooked if the eater puts it back in their mouth after they spit it out? This should make some interesting video as many of the top eaters will keep their hands over their mouth as they try to swallow a dry mouth full. Also chipmunking will be funny as 4 or 5 Krystals get shoved in the mouth at the last second and the eaters start gagging 30 seconds after the contest because they are still trying to chew the chipmunked product.

That’s a good point about 2-hour old Krystals being very dry, unlike fresh, hot ones. The IFOCE may well want to have the EMTs close by.

Here’s a nominee for the Dumbest Comment Ever:

“That’s a good point about 2-hour old Krystals being very dry, unlike fresh, hot ones. The IFOCE may well want to have the EMTs close by.” -Rhonda Evans

This comment is dumb because there’s no need for any of it. Point One is unfounded. She has no idea how far in advance the Krystals are prepared, nor what their texture would be like if they were 2 hours old. Point Two is dumb because it reiterates a policy that Rhonda knows is already in place at every single eating event sanctioned by the IFOCE. She’s attempting to take credit for a common sense idea that she knows isn’t hers.

Are you fools even reading what you’re writing?

If an eater is too DUMB to take a goddamn drink of water then I say let ’em die at the table.

God forbid these EATERS have to eat food. DO you seriously think IFOCE eaters are going to be unable to compete in this contest without CHOKING?

It’s different…. but it’s not gonna kill anybody.

You two, TUT (you’re the fool!) and Anony (By the way, are you left-or right-handed?), are missing the point. No one is saying that anybody WILL choke. Ther’s only a chance out of a thousand of that. And supposedly EMTs are always available.

However, the propensity of that happening is increased, given the switch from drinking to eating. Face it, it’s not natural to see how fast you can speedeat any food, so extra precautions are certainly realistic.

People have indeed died from choking Tut, dumbass!

    Shea brothers, please take note.

Rhonda Evans, who has never competed in an eating contest, suggests alerting your EMTs to the increased risk of choking due to dry food.

We are so lucky to have her involved in our sport via this message board. Her ideas are revolutionary.
