Does joey get a bye also? If not, I predict he will eat 118 in the qualifiers. I also predict that the next post will be Rhonda saying that Kobay is going to pulverize him with 132 in the finals.

This weekend starts the contest. Who will be there?

118 is a good guess. I’ll put money on 105 by Joey, but I think that’s what he’ll do in the finals when he brings his A+ game. Hard to say what he’ll do in the qualifier. Last year he ate 91 in the finals but only 52 in his qualifier (apparently pacing himself and realizing he didn’t need to push too hard…he beat runner-up Crazy Legs who put up 36).

What influenced my high amount was the show that he put on at the Nathan’s qualifier. His increases as of late makes me feel he can add on another 27 to last year’s. I also think that he might show us this at the qualifiers, instead of having us wait until the finals. Good Luck Joey!

Try to remain calm, and get ready to start the usual well-deserved insults…I’ll be there!!
I was hoping Hurricane Dean would turn North, develop back into a category five, head to Chattanooga and scare all the other eaters away….it seemed like the perfect plan…I should have headed to Saratoga, where second place in the Nathan’s contest was mine for the taking!!…or at least a tie for first in the neat-eating contest…..then I could have put “tied Eater X in hot dogs” on my resume….
Seriously, Nobody is going to, or should eat more than 100 in a qualifier…why show your hand that early??

Ask Joey that. that is exactly what he did at nathan’s this year. I think it might have been a request from the higher ups in order to create chatter. Might be worth it this time around too.

I’m going to put my tinfoil hat on for this one. I believe Joey did his 59.5 knowing he can get in the low 60’s. Making Koby train for only 62ish when he knew he’d put up a bigger number. I think he might break 100 just to be the first person to do it.

The days of “concealing your hand” by putting up low qualifying totals are over. Half the purpose of qualifiers is to create public excitement leading up to the main event. Carey had it right…Joey’s 59.5 HDBs was more beneficial for the sport and the sponsor than any potential competitive damage to Joey (i.e. giving Koby a reason to train).
Like it or not, Joey is no longer eating and strategizing strictly for Joey. He has to do what’s best for CE and the sponsor FIRST before he thinks about what’s best for himself. But I guess when you’ve earned $39,500 in sponsor prize money in the first eight-and-a-half months of the year, you kind of learn to accept that.

Carey I’ve sort of lost faith and I really don’t care who wins between the two of them. I just hope the better eater wins. I expect both Joey and Koby to go over 110, but many more than say 115 is a bit much.
I’m more interested in how many Pat, Sonya, and Tim can do. I think Pat can approach 90 – 95. Sonya does well, but will probably not break 65-70. (I expect her to be in Chatty this WE, by the way. Why not? She’s there every year, because she’s where the interest is.)
If she does go, I expect her to do about 64-65, and perhaps 70 in the finals. She would have a better chance if there was no dunking, and I feel that Pat would out-eat Joey in most no dunking contests.

Wow, so with a cap at 110 for Joey and Kobay, you really have Pat closing the ranks with 95. I think he is gaining fast on them also, but am still very amazed at the results from Nathan’s. I am going to stick to my first prediction. BTW, I was also predicting the 132 from Kobay. Joey gave him a wake up call, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was training every waking moment for a comeback.

It all depends on how much they change the burgers this year. There is a different texture and size to the bun and meat than what you can get otc.

I’ve got a feeling Kobayashi isn’t going to compete. As badly as I want to see him win, I think he may be done.

100 is not enough. The largest qualifiet will be at least 250!
