The danger involved in doing this is forgotten in the glory of the numbers.Just how much can the human stomach be streched before in will burst? In other sports performance enhancing drugs are banned..This is competative eating, not how much you can strech your stomach and stop your gagging reflex..Just interviewed an eater in LA,and I was told he may have surgery to extend his stomach..It will be someone who will be taken to the hospital in critical condition before this practice is stopped..90 will be the number that will do this..

I think Tim is primed for a take over. Of course Pat has a strong potential, but I still see Tim as a front runner. For some reason though I imagine the numbers will soon start to go down. I think Kobyashi and Joey are gentic mutations (said with utter respect and awe), but I don’t think numbers like these can keep on going.
These are just the ramblings of a fan of the sport who can barely eat 3 hot dogs without feeling violently ill.
I look forward to the continuation of a great spectators sport.

Yeah, I’d say 90 hot dogs would more than likely burst a stomach, Anon850. I’m not sure that anyone will ever eat 90 though. Can someone really burst their stomach? Considering that it’s never happened (at least in a contest), I’d say it’s extremely unlikely. I’m guessing a person — even Joey or Koby — would throw up before that happened.

I also doubt that someone could have surgery to expand their stomach. No doctor, except for maybe a few in a back alley, would perform that surgery. And the cost to do it, combined with the risk involved, would far outweigh the potential financial rewards.

“Just interviewed an eater in LA,and I was told he may have surgery to extend his stomach.”

I’d like to meet the physician that has agreed to do this and the eater who thinks it’s a good idea.

I was really impressed with Pat Bertoletti’s finish at the finals. As long as Koby, Joey or Pat stay in the game, Janus can forget winning the Nathan’s Finals. Ain’t gonna happen.

As far as I’m concerned … Pat is twice the eater Janus is. And HDBs aren’t even Pat’s strength.I doubt you’ll see Janus finish in front of Pat the rest of this year in any contest. Pat has demon speed. Janus plods along.

Juliet dusted him in Clams, and had Pat been there he would have been further embarrassed.

I think it’s odd that everyone is counting out Kobayashi being the next person to beat Joey. He’s played him close 3 straight years now. I don’t think the odds of him beating Joey are good, but they’re certainly better than Pat or Tim pulling out an upset.

Oh – I’m sorry Rhonda – I thought the poll question was “who you think will win the NATHAN’S FINALS after Joey Chestnut’s streak ends?”

I was also referencing your comment of “Janus can forget winning the NATHAN’S FINALS”

So Rhonda – I am Anonymous 11:00 ans 12:51, in case you have trouble following the flow of conversation. Based on the thread you are posting in, referencing your own comments, and answering my question – do you think Tim Janus should throw the towel in having come in 1 HDB behind Pat Bertoletti, in competing to win the Nathan’s Finals should Joey Chestnut not compete? Do you believe a 1 hot dog spread between the 2 eaters, in the mid-50’s range cannot be overcome. Do you think Tim Janus, who has improved his number in each and every Nathan’s competition should resign to the fact that it is impossible for him to pick up 1 more HDB, whilst assuming Pat Bertoletti will always attain a minimum of 55 HDB’s? If you think he should, do you believe this decision should be rendered due to his clam performance vs. Juliet Lee? Is that what I can read into your comments?

You guys really don’t have a clue who anyone is, but you pretend that you do and insinuate that you do so that you can more forcefully make a shitty, unsubstantiated argument and try to bring people down while you do. Rhonda, that’s all you ever do. And Stevie, you really are too dumb to know any better. You think that Rhonda actually makes good points.

It’s true that there are a lot of imaginary dialogues on this site, that people do try to create the false impression of a widespread belief. But it’s also true that eaters sometimes organically share the same opinions, and that because they’re often in communication with each other, their viewpoints can become shared even if they weren’t initially, Two comments can be similar without coming from the same source. Unfortunately, when they’re written articulately, you choose to believe that they’ve come from one individual.

Honestly, though, if you think the sportsmanship that occurs on this site is deplorable, pay closer attention to the lack of sportsmanship at the eating table. It’s a far worse situation there. What goes on here is just a response to that.

If you are so disgusted by “this pathetic little site” Stevie Adnor, then why do you constantly read it AND continue to come back with comments? Really, why I ask you? It is a forum where anybody, including the eaters, can say what’s on their minds. If you do not agree, then state your opinion or shut your mouth. Since the eaters do not know who you are, they probably don’t care what you have to say in the first place.

At least Stevie and I use real names, whereby folks know who said what. Yeah, eaters CAN say what’s on their minds, but unfortunately several are too cowardly to attach their identities to their words. They’d rather play games like children in kindergarten.

    Teacher: “Who broke wind.”
    Student 1: “Not me.!”
    Student 2: Me neither.”
    And on and on.

Rhonda, nobody knows who you and Stevie are. We can’t verify that you’re using real names. You say that you’re using your real names, and you expect that to be good enough for us, even though you undermine your credibility by using this website to lie and exaggerate and to defame other people according to your whims.

Even if Rhonda is your real name, signing it to your comments is hardly an act of courage. No one knows who you are, so you’ll never be held accountable face-to-face for what you write here. When we ask you who you are, you say, “I’m Rhonda Evans,” as if that should actually mean something to us. You never offer anything else. You never offer us a reason to believe in your pen name. Your name, real or not, is as good as an alias.

Rhonda – does Tim Janus’ clam performance vs. Juliet Lee warrant the statement that he has no chance at ever winning the Nathan’s finals? Should he resign himself to the fact that winning is impossible vs Pat Bertoletti who consumed one more Hot Dog? As I ask you this, I can assure you that I believe Bertoletti is a far better eater overall. However, I am not understanding why he doesn’t have a chance in your mind. By what standard of measurement have you determined this to be the case so definitively?

Rhonda I dont think I could disagree more. Tim is extremely hard working and demonstrates a level of fairness and humility that needs to be more widespread. NO ONE eats 50 hot dogs by accident and he could easily be the Champion in a Hot Dog contest without Joey. This guy has BUSTED his ass for this contest, and I continue to be in awe.

I really hope you are kidding around when you call him a Jackass.

And while I have laughed at some of your postings, still, we do not know who you or Stevie Adnor are. Yes, we know when you post under your pen name, but Steak and I are known and reachable. My opinion of Tim Janus has nothing to do with his being Legs’ roommate. I frankly am stunned that he was able to eat the number of hotdogs he ate. Such postings on your part reduce your credibility. On what basis are you calling names? Seems ridiculous to me…..in my not so humble opinion.

To be fair, I think Rhonda’s rage during her now infamous “jackass” comment was directed more at her anonymous attackers than the X Man himself. At least I hope so. Unless she knows something nobody else knows — like Tim enjoys punching babies or he passes the time by killing hobos in dark alleys on the weekend — I don’t think anyone can accuse Tim Janus of being a jackass.

  35. Anonymous said

Rhonda – I can only assume from your responses that you have no foundation for your comment that Tim Janus can never win the Nathan’s finals, which was the subject at hand. What a tedius thread to read, as you have failed to present one valid point in defense of your argument. Childish personal insults, name-calling and irrelevant frustration with not knowing who is posting what has only shown that you clearly have some pent up problems with certain eaters that are unrealted to their performance, character or future potential. My entire point in asking you if Tim should throw in the towel was to finnd out why Bertoletti’s 55 was so much more impressive than Janus’ 54. In my opinion, both numbers are equal for all intensive purposes related to this argument, and your personal feelings or crush, or whatever you have going on with Pat Bertoletti have clouded your judgement an resulted in your public berating of another great eater. It’s a shame you have lowered yourself to that level, and I think you owe everyone an apology for your rude and inappropriate commentary regarding Tim Janus’ and his future potential in the sport.

Whenever someone asks Rhonda about her real identity or why she never surfaces at a contest, she either ignores the comment or convieniently changes the subject. Its like conversating with a blind date over the phone. Until you actually meet the person they are just that.
