New poll: writer(s) of the year

The new poll asks who the (non-eater) writer of 2005-6 is.

(If there is a non-eater award in 2007 for writers, Dave Shoffner will not be eligible since he has started to compete in events, but he did not compete in the July 5, 2005 – July 4, 2006 period in which these awards are based.)

Jason Fagone competed in at least one contest. The 2nd Ave Deli Pastrami eating contest. Does that make him ineligible, or does a writer get to compete in a contest or two, as most writers attempt?

Errr, and technically I did compete during that time frame (in the shoofly contest). Sorry folks, I’ll have to take myself out of the running. (Though judging from the preliminary results, that won’t be necessary!) But it’s nice just to be nominated!

Fangone, Nerz, Shofner. It sort of cheapens the sport when these guys compete Its like Mike Lupica deciding out of nowhere he would like to walk on the court and get some playing time with the NY Knicks for one night. Guys stick to your god given talent and stay on the outside looking in.

I’ll agree, except with Dave. I have 2 “wins” over him and the last time it was real tight. The improvements he’s making as of late are incredible and I can see him as a top ranked eater if he keeps it up and keeps training.

The way I wrote that didn’t make it seem he won the 3rd time we met. Darn english language!

Touche, Mr. Wright. But what if Mike Lupica was able to take the court and actually OUTPERFORM some of his competitors? Would he still be a writer posing as an athlete or a would be become an athelete who also happens to write?

Regardless, I’m not a writer who decided to “try out” competitive eating just to get an inside perspective. To be fair, I was eating on a competitive level (though not in the IFOCE) long before I was blogging. But honestly, I don’t consider the type of blogging that I do to be “writing” in the traditional sense. Krista and Liz’s blogging…now THAT’s writing.

So if my “writing” came AFTER I started competing, I guess I’d be more like Tiger Woods, MJ, or any other athlete who publishes accounts of their experiences in their respective sports. Or, for that matter, many of the current eaters who also maintain active blogs.

After the jalapeno contest is over ,lets take a poll to see if don lerman says he will take another one month hiatus to lose weight, be more consistant and go through the competition like grant went through richmond. If he loses this contest and we have to listen to his bullshit after that i suggest strongly ignoring him or locking him up and throwing away the key
