Posts like this are stupid and irrelevant to the eating community. There are many people on here that called themselves a competitive eater. Cherish is not a competitive eater. Titanium jaw is not a competitive eater. Ryan is not a competitive eater. Josh Krady is not a competitive eater. Cody is not a competitive eater. If you were on the level of people that are similar to this, you are not a competitive eater you eat more than the average person and you are trying to make something out of it, that you are not. Joey Chestnut is competitive eater. Miki Sudo is a competitive eater. Molly Schuyler is a competitive eater. Geoff Esper is a competitive eater. Dan Kennedy is a competitive eater. Kobashi is a competitive eater. Nick Wehry is a competitive Tim Janis is a competitive eater. Eating a pie slowly is not competitive eating. Going to the buffet is not competitive eating. going to the golden corral and throwing up 15 times over and over again to eat more is not competitive eating. Take a look in the mirror and tell me what most of you really are on here.

Or maybe they are just having fun doing something they enjoy and sometimes win some prize money for it?

@ 2:30 pm, Quick question- Have you faced any of the eaters you described as non- competitive eaters in a food competition?

@2:30 technically is correct. Is an overeater or a slob at the buffet an eater of competition nature. No. Look ma! I ate at a major eating contest with real eaters! That makes me a competitive eater. Please pass the participation trophy over. I deserve it.

@ 7:45 pm, Quick questions- Have you faced any of the eaters you described as non- competitive eaters in a food competition? Out of the eaters you described, which are a slob at buffets? I’ve never seen any of those eaters acting as slobs at a buffet.

While @ 2:30pm is not wrong, what is the definition of a “competitive eater”?? I would say it would be something like this:
A CE may be defined as someone meeting the following criteria:
1. Stomach capacity at least 2.5x an average/normal person (4.5 pounds for women, 5.5 pounds for men I think are reasonable figures)
2. Has competed in multiple (3+) eating competitions–with “eating competition” defined as a contest/event in which an eater competes against other skilled “eaters” in a timed eating event or a “first to finish XX amount of food” event
a. Do spicy food eating contests count? In theory, many spicy food challengers/competitors do not have large capacities, but would meeting other criteria to be considered a “CE”.
b. If an eater regularly attends and participates in eating contests against average/non-skilled eaters, but wins such contests by a large margin of victory, he/she may likewise be considered as meeting this criteria to be considered a CE
3. Must not be regularly disqualified from eating competitions due to rule infractions, “reversals of fortune”, or not finishing / surrendering prior to end.
*Just because someone is not a “skilled” or elite-level competitive eater that is top 5 in MLE or independent contests, that does not mean he/she is not a Comp. eater….IMHO. However, many people mayv often mis-label themselves as Comp. Eaters instead of food challengers / food reviewers–that I agree with.

@9:42
Your argument means there are 10’s of thousands of undocumented competitive eaters in the US. Get your official eater cards ready as now we can all be CE masters! How exciting for those of us who amounted to nothing. Btw cherish can’t eat enough to define those standards you proposed.
Anyone can go to a contest multiple times and now be considered a pro?
If I play football with the 49ers in a field 3 times I’m a pro football player ! I’m about to be rich!

@ 1130— See, now you introduced the word “Pro”, which is a subset of all CE’ers, in my opinion. Professional competitive eating and competitive eating are not the same thing. What is Cherish’s capacity, since it sounds like you may know it better than even she does??? And if you think there are tens of thousands of people in the US that can just walk up to a table and eat 5- 6 pounds of food, you are wrong.
I challenge you to play football on a field 3 times with the 49’ers. Please name anyone that has ever played with/against a professional sporting team, not in an exhibitor-format, that is also not themselves considered a pro?
I’m waiting for you to give your definition of a Comp. Eater? Why is Miki considered a CE–just because she is in MLE and ranks high? Based on her recent aspirations, I think she is closer to being a successful, professional dentistry hygienist than a successful Comp. Eater (at least I assume she will make more each year as a dental hygienist). Is Geoff Esper a Comp Eater or a teacher? Is Scott Eats a Comp. Eater or a professor? Is Joel Hansen a Comp Eater or Social Media Influencer/Content Creator? What about Raina?? I don’t who the F you think you are, but I would put my money on any of these people before I would bet on you. So please, get off you high horse, pull up a seat at the table, and show the world what you can do with regards to mastication and gurgitation talent. There’s plenty of room for ya.

A competitive eater by definition is someone who regularly competes in eating competitions. By that definition, Josh, Cherish, Cody, Titanium Jaw, Ryan, etc. are considered competitive eaters. There is videos and photos of Josh, Titanium Jaw, Cody, and Cherish completing challenges at or above those capacity guidelines. (I’m not too familiar with Ryan, he may also have evidence, as well). Josh and Cody both have wins over far more experienced eaters, not listed in your list. Spicy contests are another topic but both Cherish and Cody have shown the ability to do exceptionally well in spicy challenges.

Almost none of the eaters are pros. A pro needs to make 50% of their money through their profession and can survive living. So technically most people are not pros.

So like the previous poster said we can all be competitive eaters if we try to eat one more bite at thanksgiving.

@ 10:48, all of the listed people are better competitive eaters than you are as a comedian. Little wit and no one finds your comment funny besides the smirk and “I’ll get ‘em with this comment” thought you give yourself. Your argument seems to be defeated as you can’t come up with anything knowledgeable. (No, your Thanksgiving comment was not intelligent or thought provoking). Have a good day.

@3:22 you should work for Webster’s dictionary. You can make up definitions. By what you’re saying, anybody can compete in Eddie field in any single idea of function across the world, and become a competitive whatever. I could throw a stick in my driveway and regularly compete against myself to see if I can jump over the darn stick and now I’m a competitive stick jumper. The sad thing is mostly people just wanted to belong into something so they decided to over eat, which is what they already regularly did. they are not fast and they have no skill. You have people like Josh Krady, who are absolutely emaciated and call themselves a competitive eater because they’re using the bathroom every 15 seconds just like Moe just like Reyna. This is an embarrassment. The sad thing is is if Krady or Cherish or Ryan, or the select others possibly named in the other pieces were any good or could eat quickly or could eat over 5 pounds of food at a decent rate they would be a competitive eater. They are just eaters, who can eat more than the average person. They will never be the winner. They will never be anything, but an attention seeking fool. There’s a reason why there are definitions for real competitors and amateurs. Don’t cross the gray line unless you can prove you can. I may not be the best competitive eater or any competitive eater but at least I don’t act like I’m Joey Chestnut, Skyler, Sudo, Esper, Kobashi, or anybody of that field

@ 8:10am Do you realize how much of a hypocritical idiot you are? Your “you should work for Webster’s” comment isn’t fucking witty, when you are the one who is arguing your case for your own definition of a competitive eater. You fucking idiot. If someone does any competition sport regularly, even if they aren’t in the 1 percent of talent, are a competitor of said sport. Get that through your thick head.
This will probably make you sad but to my knowledge the government recognizes Josh, Cherish, and Cody as competitive eater/ professional eaters, as they have won over over a few hundred dollars from eating competitions and have to file taxes on said money.
You numbskull you are acting like you are in the top 1 percent and you aren’t even a competitive eater. How fucking pathetic. Call out any of the names you mentioned and I’m sure they’ll be able to beat you in a contest.

My opinion is a professional would have a signed contract between the professional and organization. Problem is no players union so I don’t believe eating is there yet to be totally considered a professional sport. Something to consider for the future maybe agents soon
