ChipShotz.com has an article about the Cuban sandwich eating contest held Saturday in Tampa as part of cigar manufacturer J. C. Newman's Founder's Day celebration. Nick Wehry ate 22 sandwiches in 8 minutes to win the contest. Miki Sudo was runner up with 18.5.

Is MLE allowing all their eaters to do unaffiliated contest now? It seems like there has been a lot of examples of this lately.

Rule of thumb is that if you get the OK from MLE in advance, there’s no reason you can’t do non-MLE sanctioned events. Also, if you’re a crappy eater in MLE, they likely won’t care if you do a non-MLE event. But if you are decently OK (Top 25 eater, but not in the top 5), don’t expect MLE to be OK with you doing any independent contests outside of MLE. Even if you ask for permission, they’re unlikely to grant-it unless it’s truly a charity event.

This looked like it was just an exhibition for the ridiculous couple. Not a fan of theirs. Especially not him. But this didn’t look like a contest.
