No MLE programs on Spike TV’s pre-Christmas schedule

The online schedule for Spike TV now extends to December 26 and the third installment of the trilogy recorded in Las Vegas which features ham and hard boiled eggs eating contests does not appear on it.

Spike’s programming for Christmas and Christmas Eve consists solely of James Bond movies and reruns of “Star Trek: Voyager” and “CSI”.

update BestOnCable reports that the ham & eggs contest will be televised on December 12, but other schedules do not corroborate this.

It’s not just Koby’s jaw that has arthritis, CE itself is riddled with aches and pains.

Over the last year or so competitive eating has hit a barrier from a popularity perspective. I’ll be blunt. Joey and Pat are fantastic eaters, but they do not have the superstar power of Takeru Kobayashi. Who does? The sport, pseudo sport, or whatever you want to call it, needs his jaw to heal — and quickly.

New contest idea for Spike TV, or whomever:
Take 64 eaters – all the ranked ones, the unranked people who still have participated over the years, and why not – add some AICE eaters -have a huge contest to determine “world” rankings, and one world champion. Call it “Munch Madness” – have preliminary events in regional slots, eating regional foods.
We could get a sponsor for each region, feature their foods, and probably get a lot of local coverage, maybe even local independent channels to have a 1/2 hour show – they always need programming. This should develop lots of interest in the final, national competition. Make sure there are both “debris” and “dunking” foods, so a true regional champ emerges.
A tournament like this will really get more local eaters known, which develops fan interest and local favorites, which develops more interest in the sport – and more ratings, and more opportunites for the future. Everybody likes to have a “rooting” interest, and people like to “pull” for someone from their area.
I need more coffee, and just dreamed this up….so, let EatFeats know what you think, my brain has just reached its Saturday morning thinking capacity.

Does anyone think that the lack of upcoming contests might have something to do with Dr. Metz’s paper?

Metz’s paper was probably only read by people from eatfeats – no worries

Not a bad idea Super Paul. This event could really work and be very interesting. Almost like March Madness.
