Sorry SuperPaul, but I think you had to be competitive in an event in the last century to have a chance of being invited to this contest…

What’s the purpose of holding a contest that isn’t open to the general public? That’s like the Mets playing the Cubs and not opening the stadium to fans.

The goal is to get Axia 3 on local TV news and into newspapers and not to have a lot of unpaid spectators. Since not much is scheduled for Thanksgiving Eve, tv stations will have probably some time to fill on November 22.

I’m already turned off by Axia’s shitty commercial(s). I think I know the marketing ploy. If they catch enough people off guard who watch those airings, they will, in themselves, invoke stomach and other digestive ailments in the viewers, who will run right out and purchase their product. Hell, I have heartburn just thinking about it.
(Excuse me, as I bolt out the door and run down to a 7-11 to buy Axia-3.) (I hope all of the eaters at the Thanksgiving event show up with rival products.)

Pete, I was referring to open to the public for spectators, not players.
Exactly, OJ. You hit it on the head…just another marketing tool to fill the pockets of the sponsors. Fans and spectators be damned.
‘Cause everyone knows it’s hard for Axia’s stuffed suit spokesperson to awkwardly interject during an TV interview, “Axia is an excellent resource for heartburn, indigestion, acid relfux sufferers. Axia 3, available nowhere!” over the cheering of fans.

I think Steakbellie is going to win the whole thing. Turkey is where he has his breakout performance.

People, about this thing not being open to spectators and just a marketing tool to fill the pockets of the sponsors, EVERY ifoce event is all for marketing. The whole ifoce thing is a marketing arm of Shea Communications. They are PR guys. That’s their only thought. Legs, Boone, any character they love because the event gets more press and the Sheas are happy.
Real sports were there first and marketing went to them. This ifoce was created for marketing and it is trying to get the label of ‘sport’ now. It won’t work.

You said, i agree with some of your commentary. I was never fully accepted as a marketing character in the IFOCE. This is partly my fault for not exploiting the name “beautiful” with fancy diamonds and rings etc etc but for all ive done to hype competitive eating i think i have gotten the short end of the stick throughout the years. My controversial commentary on the organization along with my adversaries copying and pasting negative remarks on my website to the shea’s certainly hasnt helped matters but i will never stray from telling the truth. I dont think ive been half as obnoxious as Boone so in reality you can be a bad guy but the IFOCE has to like the bad guy. Get it? Shea’s will always have a soft spot for Conti & Boone because they have a certain charisma that the Shea’s want to promote. You can tell me otherwise until you are blue in the face but you wont change my mind. Ive been in this thing for 10yrs i think i have gained good perspective as to what is going on without actually sitting in the Shea communications (IFOCE) office in NYC. I will say this on behalf of George and Rich, for two brothers who claim they never had any training or experience as tv commentators i would go as far back as battle of the buffets and if you didnt know them you would think that they have been hosting tv shows for years. PR and acting in front of a camera are two different vehicles and they do a remarkable job on both ends

Yes I do agree totally that the Sheas do a remarkable job. I have only been to two things, Nathan’s at Coney and a Krystal qualifier, and george sermoned at both and he can work it no doubt. I have seen rich on TV and he too can go and go. I’m not saying the marketing they do is a bad thing but when ever people lament the prizes, or the shea’s profiting or whatever it’s like “open your freakin eyes” because the ifoce is used for marketing and getting the sponsors media time. That’s it. That’s it.

You said,
I appreciate your candor, but I disagree. If the Sheas can’t market this into a sport no one can–they already are doing it. They are the entrepreneurs, the risk takers, and deserve to be rewarded for their hard work. The IFOCE eaters are now justly rewarded to. As a matter of fact, AICE eaters need to thank the Sheas, because they indirectly benefit from their marketing and PR efforts — not the other way around. If the IFOCE goes away, competitive eating, as we know it, goes away
Also, good luck to you BB on filming the contest. Give those Axia peole a few pointers. You may well need their product afterwards.

Looking at the list of these invitational eaters, it looks as if they set the contest up for a showdown between Sonya and Eater X. Everyone in this contest is an East coaster?? What the FU^@#^?!? Whats up with that, is this some regional title this year or something? Where’s Erik the Red, Joey Chestnut, The Locust, EL Toro, Erb, and Bertoletti………it looks a afixed match for Sonay to 3 peat….and what about the southeners, Bubba, The Legend, Hoover hunt, SUPERPAUL!!, and good o’l Boone. we’ll see who else will be there

I disagree with Ronda on this one. I think thanking the Sheas for competitive eating is like thanking Donald Trump for taking my money at the casinos. These are wealthy business men who give back very little to those who work for them. Much like Trump does at the casino. It is a capitalist dream in which they use people to get rich and throw the eaters scraps.

From one Anonymous to another.
Why would Joey, Rich, or Eric fly all the way to NY during one of the most busy travel times of the year to go to a shitty contest?
Yes, this is a shitty contest. Eaters that are lucky enough to get invited have to pay there own way. It is not a ligitamate contest because all birds are different sizes. Most importantly this contest is sponsored by a fake company. Have you seen Axium3 on the shelf??? Try to find a representative for Axium3, there are none. Not only is the sponsor fake, they are cheap. The contest is worth less than last year, as far as I know, this is the first time a repeat contest has decreased prize money.

Axia 3 appears to definitely be a real product, albeit one that lacks shelf space. The web page where it can be purchased is http://axia3.com/

I will be going, I know chestnut can’t make it this year because of work and travel. It should be a cool contest as It’s every eaters dream to sit down to a whole turkey. It’s more remarkable to see a huge amount of food at one time. People think 54 hot dogs is not a lot, but when they see the whole tray at once they freak out, it’s the same phenomenon with turkeys.

The people at IFOCE asked me to remind you to make sure you are at the deli no later than 8pm. We dont want you to miss it!

Pat I’m glad that you will be there. It’s a shame Joey won’t be. I would l-o-v-e to see him in it. Ironically, it’s called an “Invitational,” but oftentimes a top-ranked eater doesn’t bother showing up. Probably because given the paltry prize structure of these “Invitationals,” it is simply not cost-effective or worth one’s while to go. Joey is exercising common sense, as the risk-reward ratio is not in his favor.

If you can keep a secret, the contest is actually in the morning. The eaters that actually make it on time can look forward to other hijinks as I will replacing the other Eaters food with LIVE turkeys.

Steakbellie, also replace the mashed potatoes with fresh California Spinach…I’ve heard that is an eating deterrent.
I think there would be less people interested in watching the Mets play the Cubs, that should be a private event, and will be a bigger slaughter than shipping day at the Turkey Farm…..and I’m a Cubs fan.

That is not much of a web page for Axia. That makes speedeat look like a high end website. Seems to me that $2500 is a ton of money for a company and a product to put up for prize money. I guess they are trying to create demand for a product that is almost impossible to get. Is this even a US company? There is no info out there on them. Might be a startup with some seed money to marketing.

I sure as hell wouldn’t buy any stock in them if they were publicly traded. I predict this to be their first AND LAST sponsored event. No, maybe they might have one more after this, but that will be it.
