The New York Times City Room blog has an entry about dining with Takeru Kobayashi last night which includes a post-meal picture of his abdominal muscles.

Kobayashi is getting as much if not more press than he would have had he participated.

It is kind of gross, like LBJ showing his appendectomy scar. Some reporter should ask him why.

because he can, don’t be jealous anon 10:47 – the man has great abs, he should show them off, he does it to show that hes not an out of shape CE eater, most people think you have to be a “big” person to eat in CE

Koby showing his abs is a superb endorsement of competitive eating. It’s a shame no ifoce members are built as well.

anon 12 and 1:37pm you are dead wrong ok? Showing off his abs is like saying Ha Ha look what i got. I ate this huge meal and no fat to show for it. To me that is arrogance in it’s purest form . While you refer to it as a superb endorsement of competitive eating, others like myself .do not. . There are many obese or overweight eaters in the sport that have a weight problem might find that endorsement somewhat distasteful . Bragging about his metabolism the same selfish way he attempted to charge the stage is not very impressive.

Hes just showing that hes not your average guy who can eat a lot. Showing that hes a professional who takes what he does seriously. People wouldnt have been attracted to him as a competitive eater if he were fat, after all, probably more like repulsed.

Perhaps the time has come for some way to control the deterioration of every thread which has all of the marks of a Seiken highjacking. And who knows how many even more unprintable comments he has submitted. Suggestions?
